My friend called yesterday and had me come over to his house because he bought a new game and it wouldn't run on his system(one that I built for him). I went over there to try and help him with his problem. Much to my surprise, I discovered that the game wouldn't run on his rig because it REQUIRED DX9. I hooked him up with the ATI Catalyst 3.1's(DX9 install was on the game disk) and all his problems were solved.
The game? Nascar Racing Season 2003. To my knowledge that makes a total of 2 proggies that require DX9, 3DMark2003 and Nascar Racing Season 2003. Are there any other games or programs out now that REQUIRES DX9? |

The only thing not good is that my card isn't a DX9 card, so installing the drivers (which I did) does very little if not nothing... right?

About the only thing that installing DX9 drivers do for cards that don't support DX9 is to allow them to function with a game or program that requires DX9 so they won't crash on you. At least as far as I know.

I might be wrong here but I think you can still run dx9 games on dx8 hardware but the dx9 stuff would be done on the cpu, which is not a good thing for fps. I'm probably wrong though

The new space simulater program from microsoft, Freelancer, also requires 9.0.. the demo wont run without it.... Not a bad game actually, although it has a bit too many cut scenes for my taste.
You can download it @ http://www.fileplanet.com/files/120000/120389.shtml
