CounterStrike 1.5 or 1.6..??

I have only been playing Counterstrike for a little while and i absolutely love the game... many say that picking this game up is brutally frustrating considering that the fan base is huge and not to mention if you don't know what you are doing you WILL die in about ten seconds... but i still really really like this game although i am not all that great at it.

For those of you who are CS fans.. do you like the new additions that they made in 1.6 ??? and what exactly do you think about the whole Steam network idea..??

It's only out on Steam, it's not official yet but 1.6 seems a lot easier to kill people... dunno...

yes, 1.6 is still in beta and only available on Steam..... but if you are looking for it, i have the steam install.... for those of you that want it... ....hmmm i don't have any webspace and the file is about four to five megs.... so... i could try to send it through AIM or something....

I've been playing CS since beta 5. It's gotten worse and worse with every release. Hopefully they get it right with 1.6

BTW - I'm using 1.5 right now.

Oh, man u really gotta try 1.6. Once I started playing, I never went back to 1.5. It's so much fun I've stayed up the past few nights just playing it.

the famas is awesome... it kills like crazy.... and the tactical shield is pretty cool two... i like 1.6 is really good and i do like it a little better than 1.5... i also noticed that the texture quality has improved...

Well, if u wanna get 0wned by some lames. My ping is always around 20-70 and I whoop ass.

BTW, anywhere past 300 isn't really playable.

Yah never underestimate a HPW in close combat. Or at far range. If you do it right you suddenly become mr laggy matrix moves.

I'm serious. It throws players off... They expect you to be moving at a certian speed but if you lag you dont heh... Though after being a HPW for a few years after going to broadband I felt like some kind of god...

the servers for 1.6 are pretty good... i usually get a decent ping and i have the most unstable connection ever.... my ping will be under 100 and then i will get a massive lag spike to shoot me over 3000+... no joke, seriously.... i have also noticed that there is a few servers that boot you if your ping is over 99.... pretty demanding is you ask me but at least it provides for a better game for those who are that fortunate....

That's BS. I downloaded 1.6 way after the whole beta signup thing and I didn't sign up. I got it by searching the web. I even got some Steam-keygen that was supposed to generate valid account #'s or sumthing but I didn't even have to use it. I just installed 1.6, filled out the info and started playing.

The OpenGL has serious problems with my computer - I can't use OpenGL without getting 1+ second lags with my mouse input for some damned reason... but aside from that, 1.6 is pretty good, the new weapons aren't game-altering in the extreme but add a nice bit of variety to the mix after years of the same old, but the new map with the jungle and plane, whatever it's called, sucks the big one - ridiculously linear and camping-prone...

yeah i totally agree... i have only played the new map de_airstrip (it map be called cs_airstrip, not sure de looks better i think) a couple times and i really don't like it... there are too many narrow passages that lead to wide open areas... you are bound to get sniped ten times out of five.... as for the weapons, the famas, the galil, and of course the tactical shield add a lot of new "flavor" to the game... although the terrorists should get something to balance out the CTs getting a sheild...

another thing though... Why in the hell would they change the buy numbers for everything...?? especially when the game has been around so long and there are so many veterans that have the buy number sequences engraved in their brains..??..
way to go, valve.......

They changed the buy numbers, but they are including aliases that you can
bind that will automatically buy the gun for you, instead of having to make
your own. For example, they will alias "mp5" to buy an mp5.. so all you would
have to do is "bind x mp5" and that's it..

The new additions are:

Full body Shield:
So far, it can block every weapon but you can only hold a pistol with it.

FAMAS (CT):
Like a slightly weaker M4, but has optional 3-Round Burst.

Gallil (T):
From what i've heard, it's like a more accurate AK.

I haven't played 1.6 yet, I'm just waiting for the final to come out. I don't
like installing things I know I will uninstall later.

Plus, I haven't played CS in a very long while. Getting banned out of every
damn server you walk into isn't fun.

I almost deleted 1.5 after playing 1.6 even though it's still beta. But, I'm glad I didn't cuz in case 1.6 doesnt work I can always play 1.5. Anyway, I was one of the first to find out about the new binding system like the same day that they changed it (it wasnt like that from the start). I got this from steampowered.com forums. In case you don't follow, each script buys the specified gun, different for Ts and CTs (thats why theres 2 guns in some scripts because the guns are different for each team) but it only buys the gun that your team can buy. And it u have enough money it buys ammo, the grenade, the bomb defusal kit, vest & helmet (if not enough $ it skips that and buys just the vest)

I have recently found out that there are very complicated scripts arising out there that allow for automatic weapon/equipment selection based on the amount of money that you have. Right now, I don't wanna mess with that but maybe one day...

Anyway, just for comparison, a similar script for mostly the same guns in 1.5 would look something like this:

As you can see, 1.5's scripts tend to be more complex than 1.6's. Can you believe that my 1.5 scripts got corrupted (all i saw were a bunch of symbols & weird in the file) a while ago and I had to rewrite all the scripts. That was lame, especially that I got 1.6 a few days later and stopped playing 1.5 anyways.

1. Being better than the admin/getting on his/her nerves
2. Cheating
3. Too much camping/awping
4. Spamming the server
5. Sucking

I got banned after the best game of my life - 5 heatshots, 12 kills, de_dust2 w. the m4... I ran to the right of the T spawn (if the CT spawn is forward, it's to the right), got a guy hiding behind the double doors, got 3 rushers from the center who weren't looking (all headshots, since I had time to aim well), advanced and capped a bunch of campers, planted the bomb (I was terr and picked up the m4 in the previous round), then picked off the people coming through the CT spawn and not paying attention... that was an INSANE round, but I was promptly banned since apparently the first two rushers who I shot were the server admins

Oh, I found a great server recently www.joe.to! While its only 1.5, its still a damn good server, lots of custom maps and good big 32 player games

tend to let my stupidity get the best of me.

I also seem to do "too well" with the weapons that are "supposed" to
suck. For example, getting 3 headshots in a row with 1 clip of the Fiveseven.
And finishing the 30 minute round with the highest score using only the fiveseven.
I usually get banned quickly after using a "crap" weapon for a few rounds,
because, you know -- no one can be that good.

Yeah, I had some fun myself with that cheap ass gun. I had no money so I bought the cheapest thing in my script (the 5-7) and I gotta say it kills pretty quickly. It's so weird when I use it the ppl are like scared or sumthing cuz I kill em so quick before they can even shoot at me.

Join Date: May 2002 Posts: 237 Rep Power: 0	They changed the buy numbers, but they are including aliases that you can bind that will automatically buy the gun for you, instead of having to make your own. For example, they will alias "mp5" to buy an mp5.. so all you would have to do is "bind x mp5" and that's it.. The new additions are: Full body Shield: So far, it can block every weapon but you can only hold a pistol with it. FAMAS (CT): Like a slightly weaker M4, but has optional 3-Round Burst. Gallil (T): From what i've heard, it's like a more accurate AK. I haven't played 1.6 yet, I'm just waiting for the final to come out. I don't like installing things I know I will uninstall later. Plus, I haven't played CS in a very long while. ToshiroOC Unbiased. Join Date: Jun 2002 Posts: 4,812 Rep Power: 0	I got banned after the best game of my life - 5 heatshots, 12 kills, de_dust2 w. the m4... I ran to the right of the T spawn (if the CT spawn is forward, it's to the right), got a guy hiding behind the double doors, got 3 rushers from the center who weren't looking (all headshots, since I had time to aim well), advanced and capped a bunch of campers, planted the bomb (I was terr and picked up the m4 in the previous round), then picked off the people coming through the CT spawn and not paying attention... that was an INSANE round, but I was promptly banned since apparently the first two rushers who I shot were the server admins Oh, I found a great server recently www.joe.to!
