Two GTs for PS3--one starting with no cars?

If this is true there is no more hope for Sony. Everyone would have to agree with me on this. Sony could not be this dumb could they? Source: www.gamespot.com

Two GTs for PS3--one starting with no cars? Source: A Famitsu interview with Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi that sprung up in the Beyond3D.com forums.

What we heard: Microtransactions are a white-hot topic in the gaming biz. Publishers love them because it's an easy way to scoop up easy revenue. Gamers love them because they can pick and choose what they want to add to their game for a few bucks.
Well, that's the theory at least. Some of the more vocal gamers have expressed displeasure over the choices and prices of content, claiming that several items aren't worth what publishers are charging (horse armor ring a bell?). On the other side of things, some publishers are being forced to lower prices on online content after dismal sales. In short, the business of microtransactions is off to a cool start.
If a post on the message boards of Web site Beyond3D is true, gamers haven't even seen the tip of the iceberg. A forum member who goes by the nom de plume "one" posted his/her translation of an interview with Gran Turismo creator and Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi that originally appeared in Japanese game magazine Famitsu.
The interview allegedly says that the Gran Turismo debut on the PlayStation 3 will come in two forms, one called Gran Turismo HD: Premium and one called Gran Turismo HD: Classic.
Premium will feature "the full graphics power of the PS3" and include 30 cars and two courses, with the option to buy more of each later. There will allegedly be one mode--a casual racing mode--that doesn't include the typical GT gameplay of winning races and acquiring cars and medals.
Classic will (racing fans brace yourself) come with no cars or courses and is basically the demo that was playable at the Electronic Entertainment Expo. According to the translation, 750 cars will be downloadable for 50 to 100 yen ($0.43 to $0.86) each, and 50 race tracks will be downloadable for 200 to 500 yen ($1.72 to $4.30) apiece. The translation also states that cars will be released on a monthly basis, with some being available in limited quantities. New modes and tuning kits may also be downloadable.
There was no mention of how much the games would cost or if they would be included as a pack-in with the PlayStation 3.
It's obvious that publishers are still a bit confused as to how microtransactions are going to sit with gamers. But if such a scenario comes to pass, Sony could have a full-fledged riot on its hands, if the scathing comments in the Beyond3D forums are any indication.
The official story: Sony had not responded to requests for comment as of press time.
Bogus or not bogus?: We're hoping bogus but abstaining until something more official emerges.

.... I feel stupid now... Damn you PJ!

But still, I mean, there is a difference in between playing a REAL next gen GT game and then a HD version of a previous gen GT game.

Well again sorry for PS3 owners or soon to be. Again who could afford a game thats $100? My god and you still might have to pay for cars and tracks on top of that?

PS3 games are £52 each

That will be popular

By Nick Farrell: Tuesday 26 September 2006, 07:39
function Ads_PopUp() {} http://red.as-us.falkag.net/red?cmd=...594&bid=314397

SONY'S NEW new super soaraway PS3 games will cost punters a stonking $100 or £52 when the machine is finally released. Japanese site Impress Watch, citing "multiple information sources", claims that PS3 games will be concentrated in the £39-52 range. Currently only bigger titles on the PS2 reach the £39 mark.
At the heart of the price rice was the fact that Sony has been unable turn the PS3 into an open platform in time. It has not produced a development environment, manuals, security management and community features.
This means that Sony has gone for a traditional business model where the price of the PS3 will be low, but it will make up its cash from software royalties.
As we know, the cost of the PS3 will not be that low, so the prospect of £52 games will probably make owning and running the console extremely expensive. The Xbox 360 console will be much cheaper and its games are nearly £20 less.
There is a translation of the story at PS2.ING.com, here. µ

http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=34617

This is just nuts I mean lets say I wanted to buy a ps3 so I work hard at my part time job to try and save $600 so after I reach that goal then I have to put in another huge chunk of hours just to afford 1 game. So what you get for $700 is the system, 1 controller, and one game and they are to cheap to toss in a hdmi cable... WOW Sony thanks so much I love spending so much money on stuff like this

Thats disgusting. I'm already against episodic content, monthly fee's, and anything that slowly drains my wallet. I want to buy a game and play it. Thats f*ckin it. I will never Ever...EVER! buy that game. Ever...

I hate you PS3. Are you trying to see how low you can get the # of people that will actually buy ur console? Because ur doin a damn good job at it. Last time I checked...there are more people in North America/Europe/Australia than in Japan.

I'm really dissapointing, I was so looking forward to get a PS3 along with Xbox 360 soon and I'm starting to back away from PS3 everytimes I heard the negatives news. Now this, that's does it and stop right here. I'm not going to spend my $$$$ on this, I don't care about ooh lala Final Fantasy or GT HD anymore. I've worked so hard to save up for this and man I need to save more then I thought. Excuse my languages: FUCK THIS!

I wonder how much more the owners wil end up paying , like online fees, download content, repair fees, etc. I betcha they'll end up paying 1000 bux on the first day and it doesn't include online!!! No thanks, this is a rip off.

I'd stick with my PC and Xbxo 360. Xbox 360 have better deal and I'm sure I'll be happy with it since I've been playing on my friend's machine. A game, silver live ( you can download maps and demos) , extra controller included. Four months later after he brought Xbox 360 he had a problem with it, I was surprised that less then two weeks later he received a new xbox360 for free. The new HD add on is pretty cheap as well.

Again, Screw you Sony and thank you for supporting the rich bastards!!

Yeah see you are kind of who I was talking about. But remember this may or may not be true. So just remember before you stop wanting a ps3 just wait until it comes closer to release date to see if this is all ture or not.

Remember when you could enjoy picking up a game and enjoy playing it whenever you want? Now if you drop $100 on a game I would think you must feel like you have to play it a ton to justify the price you just paid. If I was still a kid I would feel so bad to ask for a game that would cost $100 for my birthday or xmas. You just don't ask for things that cost that much. I have a hard enough time asking for $50 games lol. I just don't see how games are going to sell if they are over $60.

I really enjoy games and everything I don't want to make it sound like I am a 360 fanboy but I just like to save and spend my money on important things instead of droping all my money on games that turn out not to be as fun as I hoped and then they just sit next to the system for the next 3 years.

$100 a game or $600 for the PS3 you really have to ask yourself is this really worth the money. I would like to call it an investment but it's not in any way. As soon as you play it once it's not used and not worth as much so I hope come Nov. 17th people were wrong and games only cost $50 to $60 each. Other Wise Sony is once again trying to rip you off. Everything they sell is a lot just look at the blueray player $1000???? lol at least I don't have to deal with the high price since I bout a 360!

new info has come out to clarify this whole mess.

GTHD and GT Premium are both the same game, just diffrent modes.

the game will be basicly free, they said all they will be chargeing for the game is the price of the disk and manual, so GTHD will only be about 5 bucks.

GT premium will come with 30 GT5 cars and 2 GT5 tracks, 30 more cars and 2 more tracks will be downloadable.

the idea with GT HD is a testing grounds for how GT5 will play out. Polyphony has said that this move was done to fit gamers current attention span. about 10-30 mins of game play a day, instead of long haul session races like most of us are used to. basicly its pay a couple of bucks and get the cars you want now, and not haveing to sit around raceing for countless hours trying to get a certain car.

ill try and get articles up when i can.

one other thing, some ones useing a terrible converter. 7800-8800 yen is 66.65 - 75.20. or 51-56 euros.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/734/734938p1.html
They could have still given the game the GT5 name, of course. Yamauchi addressed this as well. "We feel that game play style is changing these days. For the first Gran Turismo, the total play time was over 100 hours. However, GT HD will probably be played around 10 to 30 minutes a day. In other words, rather than concentrating play on a single game over 10s of hours, people will play a little bit each day.. We realize that this is the type of play style that meets current needs, and hope to offer it to players."

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/734/734935p1.html
series producer Kazunori Yamauchi revealed that Sony plans to make GT HD available for the cost of the game disk and instruction manual. This suggests a retail price point of just a few dollars for the first PS3 Gran Turismo game.

and
GT HD will include two main modes of play, Sony revealed earlier this week. Classic mode is basically Gran Turismo 4 running in 1080p along with a few other visual enhancements. The focus of this mode is on online play. Players race one-another online and purchase cars and tracks for a few dollars each. This mode won't include any courses and tracks from the start.

In comparison, those who want a more offline-oriented experience will be able to try out Premium mode. In addition to offering an early glimpse at the Gran Turismo 5 graphics engine (the actual GT5 won't be released until 2008), this mode will include 30 cars and 2 brand-new tracks right out of the box.

Well Dark Lord thanks for clearing it up a little. What I had posted kind of had the basic set up of how that game is going to go BUT I still don't like that idea. I don't under stand why it's so hard to just release a full game? They should have 3 versions. 1. buy everything. 2. get some/buy some and 3. Get everything for $60 done!

I just want to buy the game and be done with it no extra spending or anything. But I just hope 360 games don't do that!

How many cars and tracks were in the previous versions of the game? How much money would you have to spend to get the same amount on this pay as you go version?

Dark Lord, 66-75 US dollars is not 51-55 euros. Yes, maybe in the real world but in the games' world it is more like 95 euros. Something similar goes with the GBP. Where in the games' world when a game costs $39.99 in the UK it also cost £39.99 It is called a rip off but it is the way things work in the EURO area. I just checked Play.com (perhaps the cheapest for games in Europe, and it has PS3 games for 80 euros, £50. thus $101. Where if we would take normal exchange rates for $70 the game here would be sold for 50 euros. Now, where is my vaseline?

As mentioned in the lead article Oblivion alreadys does this on PC and X360 and it seems to be working for Bethesda so I would think that its a model others are likely to follow...

Think about it from a companies point of view, with microtransactions they can release small items and charge pocket change for them so quite a few people will think 'Ah what the hell its only 50p', using the traditional route they have to work on, and bug test, an entire expansion pack which may mean there is no revenue coming into the company for 6 months or so. An expansion pack will come in at a price point of £19.99 which many people will not pay in one chunk but may pay over an extended period with microtransactions.

In order for this to work satisfactorily for both parties I think that the initial game (or game framework really) should be free or at a very low price point.

Still, I'm sticking with Xbox 360 for now and will buy it in november. PS3, I might buy it later but I rather wait for a year to see how well they're doing and the games. Just that I still don't trust them and having some negative urge for it. PS3 is just still on baby stage.

Tks DarkLord for clearing it up.
