What makes a video gamer?

i was thinking about this question and... what do you think makes a video gamer; what causes someone to play video games a lot? Or even, why isn't everyone a gamer?

i think i started playing games out of boredom, back in the days of NES. i also wasn't much of a "play-outside" type of kid, so video games were pretty much all i had, next to TMNT action figures.... ever since then i guess i just never put video games down. and at the same time i can not really tell you why i like to play them so much. they are definitely a mental escape sometimes, you know, when you're in a really bad mood it always helps to get a couple good kills in a game of CS, or whatever other game.

People play games for enjoyment and as a way to escape real life for a while and have a moment of fun. There is nothing like losing yourself in a great game. While you are playing you hardly ever think of the time or anything else that might be bothering you at the moment. Everybody has there own way of getting away from it all wether it be gaming, reading a book or going for hike in the woods everyone has there way of getting away from life and its problems. We all need a little time for ourselves to help keep us happy and to help us get along with everyone.

i think that there are a variety of reasons why we are all gamers, the obvious one being stress release.... i think gamers tend to have a more vivid imagination and are overall more creative than the average person. i mean, look at all the people who play pen and paper DnD, i would get bored out of my skull if i couldn't really see what was going on. so i give props to those role players out there.

Its total escapism. Games allow us to do many things we are unable to do for real.
They allow us to 'escape' our everyday lives and play out whatever roles we choose.
Games allow us to relax, vent our anger, interact with other players and even help tune our reflexes and keep us sharp

Everyone needs a little break from the 'norm'
I believe everyone should sample the buzz from playing games

And the good thing is...

...they are only going to get better!!!!

No, I agree with ^^^ above, it's total escapism, and is almost like a book in that people like to lose themselves completely for a lot of time just doing that.
