Hello, everyone, I am currently building a system for overclocking, so I need some test software, for my PC. And what better then a good game
especially if its a resource eating monster...Ok here is my list: 1. BF2 + BF2142 2. CS:S 3. Oblivion 4. Splinter Cell, Chaos Theory 5. FEAR I allready have Half Life 2, DOOM 3, Far Cry, Neverwinter Nights... So what your list, or maybe addition to my list

Company of Heroes. Nothing brings my system to such a crawl. Nothing at all.

Oblivion can grind my system to a halt. Also Company of Heros, which has a free demo which did a good job of bogging my computer down.
Source is no longer really considered a hog, niether is FEAR, I can tear both up no problem. |

FEAR is a system hog.
Doom 3 isnt that much of one but it can be laggy unless you have a good vidcard. FARCRY - still laggy framerates. Oblivion - memory hog 1.5+ GB DDR Ram - need fast memory and a kickass card to run it well. Crysis will be the most resource hog ever to come out - so I probably wont play it. Neverwinter nights isnt a resource hog, I ran it on my old amd 800 mhz system and it ran pretty good. Just cant use 32 bit textures but the game was still nice. FEAR and Farcry and probably the worst resource hogs. |

Don't know what you guys are talking about. My comp tears up F.E.A.R. on the highest settings. Farcry too.

Id say FEAR and Oblivion, Comany of Heroes too, but I don't seem to have a problem. Oblivion is by far the worst for me.

For me F.E.A.R and Far Cry is the most demanding for my pc,which just about runs at high quality with a satisfactory frame rate. With the exception of the game save stutter which bugs me the most.

Oops.. I should have read the title better.
Microsoft Flight Simulator X (Deluxe Edition) Microsoft Flight Simluator: Century of Flight FarCry Oblivion Tom Clancy's G.R.A.W Just you wait though. As Viper hinted at, Crysis will require some pretty high specs. Take a look at them below (reposted from the Crysis forums, which was posted by one of the admins there): Minimum Requirements CPU: Athlon 64 3000+/Intel 2.8ghz Graphics: Nvidia 6600/X800GTO (SM 2.0) RAM: 768Mb/1Gb on Windows Vista HDD: 6GB Internet: 256k+ Optical Drive: DVD Software: DX9.0c with Windows XP Recommended Requirements CPU: Dual-core CPU (Athlon X2/Pentium D) Graphics: Nvidia 7800GTX/ATI X1800XT (SM 3.0) or DX10 equivalent RAM: 1.5Gb HDD: 6GB Internet: 512k+ (128k+ upstream) Optical Drive: DVD Software: DX10 with Windows Vista

ROME Total war, bf2, Far Cry, doom 3...those are a few games that i can think of ATM that are pretty mean resource hogs. i'm sure that there are other games out there as they have been mentioned in this thread already.

Are you gonna be doing actual benchmark numbers or just eyeing it? For automated benchmarks I'd go with Company of Heroes and FEAR. BF2 (not 2142) and Oblivion for general game benching. For BF2 make sure you play on a 64 man server any comp can run 16 man with high fps.

Tipstaff has it right with FS9 and FSX.
FS9 at max settings will make almost any system start 'breathing hard'. FXS at max settings will make ANY current system 'beg for mercy'.

Another one I just thought of: The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. Up the rez, turn on the eye candy, and watch your system beg for mercy.

Riddick isn't that bad until you pass across 1280x1024...then it gets kinda rough
![]() FEAR is pretty wicked, but not as bad as it's reputation....if you tune the settings a bit, you can make it run nice and look awesome...that game's fast paced enough that the difference between super HQ shadows and medium isnt bad ![]() Far Cry was pretty rough, but I still opt to blame that on a bloated engine more then anythign else. No way in hell a well written game that old would chug like it does on current systems NFS:Most Wanted can actually rip your PC to peices if you crank it...dunno how many of oyu have ever tried it...but I can chug it down to about 12 FPS on mine [loads of particles and reflections]Chaos Theory was pretty wicked too....but damn was it fun ![]() Doom 3 ate ATi cards for breakfast, but nVIdia never had much of a problem, as I recall |

Lord of the Rings - Battle for Middle Earth II would seem to be one.
I had to upgrade from 1gig to 2gig to improve shutdown performance, for example. It would literally take 3-5 minutes to shut down after playing a long match. Now, shuts down in under 20 seconds. |

Rainbow 6: Las Vegas. It's a poor port from x-box 360 to PC, and suffers badly from it.
This article breaks down the performance of just about the best (strongest) videocard setup you can get, two GeForce 8800 GTX's in SLI mode. They run Quake 4, FEAR, Oblivion, Half Life 2: Episode 1, G.R.A.W., R6: Vegas and a couple benchmarking programs like 3dmark 06 in 2560x1600 resolution with driver forced 16x AA and all games on max video settings. Rainbow 6 gets the worst framerates out of the bunch. http://techreport.com/reviews/2007q1...i/index.x?pg=1 Here's the page on R6 specifically: http://techreport.com/reviews/2007q1...i/index.x?pg=9 Even with twin 8800 GTX's, they only got 48 FPS with those settings turned up so high, and very poor framerates on everything else. |

Bad ports shouldn't count as they aren't optimized well.

The poor quality lowers your overall performance, but a good setup will still run it better than a lesser one, so it can still be handy for a test of how your system performs. *shrug*

You act like 48 FPS is slow...hell, I would kill for a system that could get those rates in FSX at those IQ settings. That's one reason you see VERY few sites use FS9 or FSX for vid card tests, and when they do they generally run them at reduced settings. No vid card maker wants to see his card showing FPS numbers in the teens and lower

Age Of mythology, the only game even with todays quad core intel junkies on crack and Quad SLI setups can blow through that game without dropping to frame rates under 5 after about 3 hours of play. That's with every slot filled by a CPU. Oventually the game slows down so much, due to so many things happening, that the entire game turns into a slideshow or oventually appears to freeze for seconds and then minutes on end.

I'll add my vote to the latest MS Flight Simulator...it brought my relatively high end system to a halt.

Personally, I'm fine with anything over 20 FPS. I play Fable in the 10-30 FPS range. Some games just look worse than others at low framerates, though. Fable is playable at 10 FPS without your ability to play suffering, while BF1942 at those same FPS is impossible, as you'll be dead before you can properly line up your sights. Gaming with a PCI card is a test of will, to be sure. :-P |
