Cannot Connect To Steam
Today i finally bought half-life 2. But i've already fell at the first hurdle
Whenever i try to login to Steam it will say Code:
Connecting To Steam Account:**** But i've played Half Life 2 Demo with Steam before and that has worked fine before. Also when i first ran Steam it updated Steam twice and it was able to connect to Steam to update fine with very fast download speed tbh And also when it didn't work at first i though mabe i had got my password wrong so i clicked on the forgot password link and that worked fine and Steam sent me an e-mail saying my verification code and my security question so that worked as well. Is Steam just not working atm or is there something wrong with my pc\router\isp? Cheers Cube623 p.s. I have allowed all the ports Steam reccomends me to allow in my router and i've temporarly disabled my firewall but Steam still doesn't work p.p.s My ISP is Sky Broadband and my router is a Netgear DG834GT (Sky Version)

Make sure that the router is not putting a PC into DMZ (Demilitarized zone). You must be behind the firewall on the router for steam to work correctly.

Same isp as im on ![]() This is not aimed at a fix and is perhaps a little off topic. I purchased Half-Life Source today via steam, seeing as this was much cheaper than ebay (inc p&p)... this was a little bit of a old style game a still wanted & loved. I have the (upto) 16mb connection from sky's service. This has taken HLS at least 4 hours to download the decryption files required.HLS: Deathmatch has taken another 2 hours longer... I not sure if it's a router problem or steams servers is running either slow or at a high capacity. But i do have 1 problem with this router.every so often i need to disconnect the power cord periodically to reset the modem to regain access to the Internet. And don't forget sky's bb service is only a couple of months old now,and this may still be a work in progress connection. As i can't access my own account to this day (after 2 months) regardless to 5 calls to tech support. How do you access those options? Last edited by MIG-31; Nov 19, 2006 at 06:55 PM. |

But its good news for me at least! My Sky login doesn't work either (after 2 months as well) but i think the reason is that something has gone wrong back at Sky and i haven't been charged yet for my up to 16mb connection!!! So tbh i'm not complaining To access the router the address for it is 192.168.0.1 the user is admin the pass is sky then it should log you into your router and you get pretty much the same menus as the normal netgear router except they've took out one of the menus so you can't use this router with another ISP Anyway i've found out what the problem was but fixing it i don't know how to It was my McAfee SecurityCenter (the version that you get from Sky) that was causing it. But if i disable the firewall the problem still happens and someone reccommended disabling the piracy service but that didn't work as well but if I uninstall the whole program than Steam works. But i would like to have McAfee installed on my pc so have McAfee released an update to fix it or is there a component that i can temporarily disable whilst loading Steam up?

I don't know if this is going to help (propably not), I had problems connecting to Steam servers all day today. I sent a message to Steam support and just checked Steam and it works. Don't know what or who or why but it works. Good luck.
