Rainbow Six Vegas PC, my experience

Finished the game last night.

There are about 6 or so main missions with several mini missions in them. The length of the campain was ok, not too short, but not long either. I would have liked 1-2 more main missions. Especialy considering how the game ends. Terrible terrible ending. I am all excitied to exterminate the bad guy and...nothing, end credits. It feels like a bad joke.

The battles in the game are fun to play, more serious than most shooters, but not the extra realistic that I would have prefered. Still, very fun.

After a mission or so, you have a certain procedure you can follow to finish the game without any problem. Tactics do work, so use them. It feels realistic in this way.

The weapons while different, do not feel all that different in use or results. I have used most of them and I can't find a good reason to not use a main assault rifle all the time. Apart from role playing of course.

The graphics in this game are great and the sound is good too. Problems that I encountered were some times the sound from the voices had an echo, but rarely. The main problem was with the performance of the game in some parts. I remember one part in particularly when there were 3 rooms in a row. First and last were ok with framerates, but the middle one, the one that had like 2 lights and almost no furniture, and it was a small one, several fps problems, my guess is it was on single digits. There are a few more places that the fps drops a lot, it doesn't ruin the game but it does feel like another patch should be released to fix it. Other than that the game is very fast and fluid.

If the story mode was longer, 20% or more, had no issues mentioned above and it had the details of Soldier of Fortune games, I would give this game 5/5. As it is now, 4/5

If you like FPS games, you should get this.

I am going to play the game on the harder difficulty setting soon.

Just started to play the game yesterday and couldn't pull myself away. Made it to the first vegas mission. The fighting in the game is pretty intense, IMO, though not the realistic "two to the check, one to the head" from the first two titles, at least on the normal difficulty. The cover system is great, and very fun. Very cinematic, and one of the most beautiful games out on the market. AI is very good, which really adds to the game, I've not once had my team get killed because they were looking at me instead of the action.

Best part of the game though has to be the control system. Commands are so easy to initiate, and your team follows them just like you would want. Other games (ahem, Ghost Recon) could really learn a lot from the controls in this title. Easy, fast, and your team is smart enough to make it work. Very intuitive, can't say enough about them.

Over all, its a great refresh of the series, and though not the traditional R6 game, it really is a gem. Well worth the price of admission.

On the hardest the damage gets pretty to0ugh. If you get hit once your screen pretty much blanks out. They also do a lot of flanking. I played through half the game on hard then switched over to normal when I got the escalators of death.

Then, eventually, you get to a bunch of stairs and broken escalators. You have to fight your way up about 5-6 flights of stairs with little cover and enemies attacking you from all directions.

Its well known in co-op as the "everybody dies" section.

oh, I remember the level now. I didn't find it difficult, but that might have to do with a)playing on normal, b)my superior tactics.
I will try the story mode on hard soon.

I think the level that I found very difficult and had to repeat a lot (5-6 times) was near the beginning, when you fast rope down to an open groun with old "parked" trains.
The end was really easy. I still "hate"them for stopping the game as they did.

I can't tell you from firsthand experience but I can tell you that my son and his buddies are having a blast in MP on their XBOX 360s. In fact, they are so enthralled with it that my son insisted they had to setup multiple XBOX 360 connections on our LAN.

I really don't rate the PC version, the 360 game is vastly superior all round. Although I do agree I would have liked another level or 2.

Great title though, and I remember the escalators of death level, that was extremely tough, well it certainly was for me. took a good hour to beat it.

IIRC what I did at first was to get my troops behind cover and snipe the enemy, one kill, cover etc. Then the same thing for each floor.

The only reason I did not get the xbox 360 version, that I played the demo and loved, was the cost for the game. Twice than the PC version.

Yeah thats pretty much a standard tactic however it never really worked on that level. you probably just got lucky because i noticed the game tactics changed with every reload, and the time I beat it, I just lucked out because one of the guys moved from the stairs to the ground level which made it easier. I noticed this on some other tricky level sections also.

I would say its really worth it yes, totally.

However with lost planet out so soon, if you have money for only one game its a tough call. http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/753/753402p1.html

R6 Vegas is a very good game. It is worth it. My next 360 purchase will be Lost Planet, played the demo few months ago and I have been saying since then that this game will rock. It is going to be for me what GoW wasn't or is for other players. (don't like GoW)
But for now, yes get R6V.

OK, later tonight I am starting the game again, hard difficulty setting, wish me luck.

Yea, I'm asuming the 360 version is much better than the original release for the PC but this game is worth it.

It does have that "Lockdown" arcade feel but it does not have that crappy trendy feel. The AI is very good also, especially your team. They move fast and fluidly, the commands also work perfectly and are executed perfectly.

I only played GoW for a short time but it was enough time to tell me R6 had more substance.

Also, the multiplayer is simply amazing sometimes and it has those great moments that have been missing from video games for some time.

I started the game on Realistic difficulty setting. The game is definetely more difficult. I am still in the Mexico levels, but I can feel it clearly that I am in deep trouble.
What I have noticed though is that for some reason I find myself very good with headshots. So far about 70% of my shots are hs, and not in bursts either.

So, what is your favourite gear? Mine is the MP5 for when I want to go in quietly or when I am out of ammo for my main weapon, the "raging bull" handgun, though I rarely need one, and my main and favourite is the MTAR21. Not sure why, but i love this rifle!
For grenades some frag and the inc...(can't spell it now) are what I always get.

Sub-Machine Guns:
UMP With Reflex scope for medium range
P90 with Laser sight for close range
MP5 with Reflex scope close medium range

Rifles:
SCAR CQC with Laser sight for medium range
MTAR with Laser sight for close and medium range
G3A4 (my absolute favorite weapon) with 6x scope for long range
Famas with 6x scope for medium and long range
G36C with Acog scope for short to long

Sniper Rifles:
Scout Tacticle 6x, 12x for extreme range

Shotguns:
M3 with either Laser sight or Reflex scope for short range

Pistols:
USP with extended mag for short range
Desert Eagle with Laser sight for medium range
Glock (I only use with with sniper rifle and riot shield) with Laser sight

LMG's:
Usually the MG36 with laser sight, but I don't use this often.

With all of the rifles I use single shot and with all of the SMG's I use burst.

Edit: Also, as far as my guy aromor wise strength and speed are even and he looks like a counter-terrorism guy should. Tiger camo with mostly dark Urban colors and a little tan to help on the lighter levels. I think I either use mostly diamondback or something else.

@bluemak

yeah the rifles were fun. although I generally do tend to favour single shot guns in games, I feel it makes you think more if you only have a single shot or limited shots, rather than pointing and aiming in the rough direction and unleashing 300 rounds in a minute

How did you find the AI of the game incidentally?

Markius is on a distinguished road

i just played through the first mission and i have one word to describe it.....AWESOME!
one of the best FPS ive played in a long time, tops GoW and maybe even CoD3 (so far) the squad AI is such a breath of fresh air, you have pretty much 99% control and they dont act like retards on the 1% they do their own thing (speaking of retarded squad AI...GoW anyone? )

anyway, just thought id throw up my initial impressions....so far so awesome

(x360 version fyi)

Yeah the AI in GOW was pretty lame, have to agree there.

hey! I don't use tha AR in full automatic :-p
I admit I have never fired one (shotgun), but they feel a bit overpowered in the game. I use them only when I have to (you know the level) and I don't like it. You use shotguns throughout the game?

I am not sure about the AI yet, if it is better than on normal. It feels the things that make the difference are the less HPs you have and perhaps more enemies at some points, though not sure about that one. Didn't count the enemy troops the first time. Also you have to take it slowly, more slowly than on normal or else you stand no chance. You can still send in the troops and snipe the enemy, but not as easy. I am still at the first couple of levels in Vegas (under Realistic), so perhaps I will have something more to add later.

And yes, the AI in GoW sucks. There isn't a firefight that one or more of my troops will not "die". TAKE COVER YOU FOOLS!

I'd just before the escalator of death section (I think) should I start over in "realistic mode" or will it just be AI with aimbots? I'm pretty sloppy and find myself standing in the open instead of using cover most of the time so maybe playing under a harder mode would be more enjoyable...thoughts?
