How Does Your Mouse Score for Gaming?
An excellent article has been published comparing a multitude of mice and their accuracy and timing. It's interesting to find out how laser and optical mice stack up against each other.
If you have any interest in just which is the best mouse for gaming, you should check out this article: A little snippet: "With the launch of the world's first independent benchmarking system for mice, buying a desktop rodent will no longer involve guesswork and luck. Sujoy Roy has been analysing hardcore data and investigating the real world at a fundamental level since entering Cambridge University in 1994. His other passion in life is gaming, so the creation of the MouseScore benchmark makes perfect sense!" Mouse Benchmarks Thanks to jasonbourne for the heads up on this as posted in the Hardware Forum. |

Using his best "Butthead Voice" - uhuhuhu - you said Exposure... lol...
Man, I cannot believe how poorly the Laser rigs did. I don't have any other type of benchmark to compare his results to, but if his stuff is accurate, it's a great result for the MX 500 line. Shouldn't the first thread have priority? He did start it after all. Oh well. |

Well, since the article relates mostly to how well the devices perform in games, I thought it would get more responses here than in the Hardware forum. I agree there's no need to have two discussions going. BTW, the author does state that he's open to testing other mice. |

I think I have this model. Very good feel, a bit larger than I am used to, but still no problem. I only have it for a month or so, but it is so far the best pad I have used in decades. (well, ever) My mouse is the MX1000, which unfortunately is not there, I wonder how it is compared to the other mice there.

The mouse mat I have is one I really love! It's the X-Trac Ripper XXL Mouse Mat and I NEVER run out of mat when playing games. I mean, after all, this thing is 36x18 inches and is large enough to cover a small desk.
![]() Check it out here: X-Trac Ripper XXL Mouse Mat @ Directron Another thing I love about it is that I can place my keyboard on it and it stays put where I put it.

One thing I do like about my trackball is that I don't have to worry about wearing out the feet on the mouse or a mouse pad.
It's probably not nearly as responsive as a regular mouse, but for me, being that I'm not a champion level gamer dude but more like a puttering old man, it's fittin' the bill. Also good on desk space, given that it doesn't need much and I do have 4 systems side by side... |

i just searched froogle for my mouse and keyboard, not a single listing for the mouse, and the keyboard is damn expensive @ 47.00.
![]() ![]() i got both of these as a combo deal from newegg for like 15 bucks. probably one of the best keyboards ive ever used, and the mouse is excellent too.

Can't see myself using a corded mouse again, and I'm no slouch at shooter games. Though I'm sure competition players can appreachiate the 1kHz USB speed with a corded optical. At least we're all free of the ball, now for the final solution to also get rid of the chain...

Yeah, I can't use cordless mice, too much lag.
My trusty four year old MX500 still takes names, now to set the USB clock higher

I'm glad that I only payed $35 for my G5.... I would've killed myself if I paid full retail price for it and then read this...

You guys remember those vibrating game mice that came out for a little while? Like Force Feedback? That was a strange time.
Now force feedback is disappearing from just about everything. Odd... Playstation 3 don't have it, and many of the Playstation 2 games seem to ship with the feature turned off by default. Maybe everybody is going to jump on that "tilt and lean" thing? Axis strangeness and stuff. I just noticed my new camera has a sensor in it that when I rotate to take a tall shot, the whole LCD orientation (the picture) rotates too. Wacky. |
