Make sure you have the latest patch installed, turn off hardware accel. in the sound options, and if necessary reduce the amount of sound channels used. Hopefully this will be enough

I've read that game had/has real problems with audio issues.... try dropping down sound acceleration in windows... And I'm assuming you have all of the latest patches for BF1942 right?

That's weird, because turning on hardware acceleration has somewhat helped my performance.
No doubt that it has sound issues.

click start > run > dxdiag > sound tab > move the slider to 'basic acceleration'
how large is your swap file? bf1942 seems to prefer atleast 512mb of ram..although i'm not sure if pc800 is an exception. check out this tweak guide from TweakTown and give it a run through..

I had extreme performance probs myself earlier w/ this game. Although, an update of my soundcard drivers fixed almost all of my stuttering issues. You really should consider looking into new drivers for soundcard if you have a Creative card.

I thought it was a video problem at first, but it's definitely a sound problem, because I have my video settings at max and it works much better. Here are some things I did. 1) GET THE Omega Drivers for your ATI video card! Fantastic! (not for this problem, but get them anyway! ![]() 2) Set Audio Hardware Accel to Basic or off. 3) Edit a file located (for me anyway) at: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\Default.con There is a line which contains: Sound.soundBufferCacheSize 200 <-- MOST IMPORTANTBegin increasing the CacheSize by 100 increments until the problem is alleviated. Mine is at 800... 4) Decrease the voice limit and otherwise reduce the audio setting. 5) Run DXDIAG to note any other problems or recommendations 6) Ask the guys on this forum for help! ![]() I hope this helps! I'm pretty sure it will... If anyone reading this has other suggestions, then please respond and/or write: Chaos games@innergears.com Thanks! |

Man, I finally got ahold of this game and it plays GREAT on my system (listed in sig.)
I've played the SP missions: Battle of Britain, Battle of Midway, and Battle of Berlin, so far. They all play and handle great. I haven't seen any stuttering as described above. I have installed the latest patch and I do have an SB Live! sound card. Although, the one I have is about 4 years old now and is not an Audigy card. I had a lot of fun working out how to win in Berlin. There's some really tight fight scenes in that one. In the Battle of Midway, I got into a couple of planes and tried flying them. Need more practice in order to do any good at it, though. |

When I went from 256mb to 512mb of ram, almost all stuttering within the game disappeared and it ran extremely smooth in comparison to its previous performance. As for the system hangs, I believe that's a driver issue, either related to the video drivers or audio drivers as others have mentioned within this thread. Simply ensure every driver you have is up to date and does not have any known issues with BF1942. Last edited by Renegade[CSR]; Oct 6, 2003 at 01:33 PM. |

I'd only add to this to make sure your sound card and video card aren't sharing IRQs with other devices....and especially not with one another. |

My younger son is interested in buying my Radeon 8500 128 MB card. He has a really nice P-4, 2.3 Ghz system but it has a crappy SiS onboard video adapter with it. BF 1942 runs like a slideshow on his system.
So, he loaned his game to me to see if it ran OK on my system and the 8500. Well, all I can say is, W O W ! ! ! I'm running it at 1024 x 768 x 32 with just about every piece of eye candy on and the game is just fantastic! Granted, I'm only playing so far in SP, but, with all the AI and activity going on on the screen, there's not even one hiccup. I do have a question though, for those who've played: In the campaign mode, I've completed successfully the first campaign and gone to the second one. At one point, I had over 100 men still active with only about 40 enemies active. Suddenly, I started losing men by the dozens! Is there some kind of indication as to where the largest gathering of enemies is? Is this done by voice instructions? If so, I'm going to be whipped too much to play it this way because of my deafness. Just a little help, please. |

Dyre, which sound drivers are you using?
Right now here's my setup: P4 1.7Ghz 400fsb D845HV Mobo 512mb PC133 Radeon 9100 128mb (250/200) SB Live! Value XP Home (all the updates) DX9b Omega ATI Leaked Drivers (3.85?) Latest Sound Card Drivers Latest BF1942 Patch And it can get really choppy, below 25fps... only get decent fps in open terrain. |

The driver version I'm using for my SB Live! MP+ is: 5.12.2.252 dated 7/24/2002 Anytime I've tried using the ones that Windows Update prompts me to use, things mess up. Instead, I got these direct from Creative Labs. |

I was playing the Battle of Britain earlier this evening and had a real surprise. To all you veterans of the game, it won't be.
But, I took position at the AA guns near the river. Shot down a bomber. The pilot bailed out with a parachute that passed right in front of me. I had to leave the AA gun for a little bit and go shoot him.

Thanks for the question....and the heads up. Actually, it was done rather easily under 98SE by selecting the SB16 Emulation in Device Manager. Then it was just a matter of Disabling the device. |
