Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Expansion Shivering Isles Discussion
A little surprised I haven't been hearing much from anyone about this online and offline.
From what I've seen it looks great. Like the guys over at Bethesda actually payed attention to what people were sayin gabout Oblivion dungeons being too linear. This game looks awesome, like Morrowind (minus bugs) + Oblivion (minus linear dungeon and town design) + LSD. Also this brings to my attention (in light of more expansion and episodic content being released for games lately) how many other expansions there will be. Maybe one for every realm of the daedric princes? Anyway, this game looks awesome and if you haven't seen it here you go http://www.elderscrolls.com/games/sh...s_overview.htm http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/765/765377p1.html What do you guys think of the game so far? |

I'm looking forward to it (still haven't play Knights of the Nine) but am not expecting it to offer any radical changes to the way the game plays or new animations in combat etc.

I still have not finished Oblivion.
![]() I love the look of the game and the size & the freedom of the game but I hated the combat & I hated the level/progression system they used. I much prefer a class type system rather than something that ends up where no matter what you do you end up pretty much the same by 50th level. If the changed that then I would say they'd have the best game ever created in the Action RPG genre. Till they do I doubt I'll be buying any expansions. Once I finish everything else I'm playing I'll go back to Oblivion & finish it up.

It takes a while to finish it, and probably as good as, or even exceeds the best missions in the original game (definetely better than the main mission). I could only wish, that every mission would have the same detail to it. ..About the Shivering Isles...well, I'm not that excited, I mean, I'm sure it adds a new small island to explore, and the madness- stuff sounds fun, but I wish they would have rather tweaked the AI even further in the original game, so I would not have to listen to the characters to talk about mud crabs or the ' hero of Kvatch". If they would actually come up with more dialog, more voice actors, more in-house made weapons and replace/expand the original dungeons/ add more monsters and NPCs and tweak the graphics etc...I would be more happier. |

I don't want to rain on anyones parade as Oblivion is without a doubt my favourite game of all time but if you read the chats and interviews with the big guys at bethesda this is the final official expansion pack for oblivion. Maybe a month after shivering isles they are going to release the fighters guild mini-expansion just to tie it up then thats it. No more.
Kind of sad but it makes you wonder whether everyone has been pulled to start developing the next elder scrolls. Well at least thats what im hoping. |

Speaking to 360 Gamer Magazine, Bethesda's Peter Hines stated; "Work pretty much started on Shivering Isles once Oblivion was done. We started looking at what we wanted to do, where we wanted to set it, all that stuff. It pretty much started last March. Shivering Isles is our last big thing: it’s our first and last expansion for Oblivion."

I played through Oblivion, at first I was excited about the graphics, then when I focused on other things like the main storyline I found it less then amazing, I found the side quests were better. I am not much of a RPG'er but I have played enough to know what to expect out of such things. Wonder around kill things, level up, travel more kill things, level up again, get amazing powers, destroy the worlds or save it. Oblivion was fun for about 15 days, then I had to throw it away. The expansions arent much better. I for one hope bethesda can come out with a better series.

Most games are only fun for 15 hours so I would say that's pretty good.

Well, it was in the heat of battle that I accidentally hit the wrong potion bottle. After defeating the opponent I entered the next room and, after about 5 seconds, dropped dead! At first I thought there was some poison in the room that killed me. So, I tried several antidotes and still noticed my health dropping fast. Cure Poison, Cure Disease didn't stop it, either. After some more puzzlement, I decided to check my status and it was then I discovered I'd been poisoned with the Poison Apple potion. So, I spent the next THIRTY MINUTES countering its affects by casting Restore Magicka, Restore Health, and casting Restore Health spells. It took that long for the Spell Indicator (that arced bar across the top of each spell) to disappear. BUT, lo! and behold! the spell itself DID NOT go away. Nor did it diminish! Eventually, I had to resort to loading a saved game prior to the accidental poisoning and repeat some activities. Soooo.....now you're warned! DO NOT drink the poisoned apple potion.

SHIVERING ISLES is available on XBox live now.
2400 Microsoft points and 1GB of downloads. I had to go into game downloads by genre then RPG to get it to show. Grab it quick before the scheduled live downtime. I feel that a large amount of my time is about to be dwindled away again. I can't wait .
