Microsoft gaming receiver

I have an xbox 360, wireless controller and just received the receiver to make the controller work under Windows.

Only that I can't make it work.

If I switch on the gamepad, the xbox turns on too and gets hold of the controller.
I follow the instructions for the receiver and I end up with nothing.
What am I doing wrong?

where did u get the receiver from????

It is the official receiver.
Anyway, I searched the official forums, they all said things like rebooting without anything else plugged in, or some voodoo.
I made it work by plugging the receiver to a different USB plug, press and hold the button on the receiver and press and hold the button on the controller.
It works. Just tested it on GUN (PC).
