After much thought and deliberation I came to the conclusion that my game of the year for last year would go to Mafia. Im sure alot of you dont agree, but for me it was the kissing goodbye of several weeks as I explored one of the greatest games ive ever played.
There were quite a few great games last year so it wasnt easy. |

I've only just started Mafia so I'll have to reserve judgement on that. The best game I finished was MOHAA.

I like Mafia a lot, but I found it to be slightly repetitive. My choice would be Splinter Cell on the XBox. It is as repetitive as Mafia is, but it blends so much action into something that could be a frag fest. Obviously, I would have said the PC version is hell of a lot better, but it just came out.

As for picking Mafia well I have always been attracted to that era in time, and I think the way it was handled was exceptional, from the music, to the storyline, the characterisations and not least of all the playability. I didnt think it was repetitive at all, but then again I was totally engrossed in the storyline and the development of the plot. I played this game through some hardware systems as well, and it played great on my 4600 but when I moved to the 9700 pro the additional of playable frame rates at high resolution with AA and aniso was truly something special. I mean I love MOHAA, UT/2003, thief, deus EX, I could go on for a long time, but mafia was special to me. ts probably my favourite game of all time. totally engrossing with some fantastic characters and visuals. |

I'd have to go for Splinter Cell, only that it came out in 2003 if i recall. If void i will have to throw my buck behind MOHAA. Love the game..

OMG, considering what a great game for gaming it was, this is an extremely hard decision to make!

Hmm, quite a few games i must say. NOLF2, MOHAA, WCIII. Splinter Cell was nice but it didn't impress me (though the graphics are mighty impressive) as much as the others did.
For rpg fans, NWN and Morrowind both have their high points but personally i prefer NWN to Morrowind. I felt Morrowind was just a little too linear (ironically, that is one of the games features) and a bit draggy and slow in the action/drama/story part.

If it came out in 2002 (I really can't remember), then Jedi Knight 2 gets my vote for best single player game of the year. As far as multiplayer goes, Battlefield 1942 is the best!
