BEWARE! The Shivering Isles Beta Patch 1.2!!!

Listen up! There are some very serious problems with this Beta patch and I very strongly advise that you do NOT apply this patch until they get it fixed.

Several gamers, including myself, have now reported that, after applying this patch, our saved games no longer work properly. Instead, when a saved game is loaded, ALL of the previous Items and Progress are removed, and even the CHARACTER is completely changed and started from scratch.

Bethesda is hot on the trail of trying to remedy this situation but no ETA is available.

In the meantime, avoid applying this patch if you haven't already.

There is a free little app that can FIX the FormID problem. For information, go here:

This is a 3rd party developed app that can be used to determine how close your game is to 'rolling over' to create the problem that the Beta Patch was 'supposed' to fix. It will tell you whether your saved game has already 'rolled over' or how long you have left until it does.

Please, do check it out. It's a simple little app and easy to use.

I actually had this issue with a new game... before the patch! I started a game, created a character, did the intro and made it to the Priory, completing a few side quests for measure, Saved the game and exited. When I came back a couple hours later, I found my character was totally different looking, inventory and equiped items were gone, and the few side quests I had completed were incomplete and several other quests I had excepted were not in my journal. To boot, my horse was gone.

My guess, it doesn't have anything to do with the beta patch, but with Isles itself. I've since put the thing away untill its acutally working properly.

also, you cannot alt-tab while in oblivion. It messes quite a bit up.

nice info dyre, I beat the main missions quite some time ago and have moved on. Im sure there are 40 million other things to do in side quests but i tend to never do those in any game. Ive a low attention span.

Fortunately, I've completed all the main quests already. I'm working closely with the Bethesda community to get to the bottom of this issue.

@Vikingod: You may be onto something. Others have mentioned it seems to be related to having installed SI. However, as I mentioned in other threads, I've logged over 580 HOURS with OB, KotN, and SI and this is the very first I've encountered anything of this seriousness. It also seems odd that this issue is only NOW rearing its ugly head among so many others and I'm sure our logged times and levels are as varied as they can be.

At any rate, I'll keep everyone posted on any updates...and anyone else who hears anything, please do the same.

Ugh, was unsure about Stalker and I just started Isles. This sucks!!!

Um, so don't patch SI and you won't get these problems.

OK, I know this isn't exactly what everyone/anyone wanted to hear, BUT, I have succeeded in getting my character back and have only lost a small amount of progress compared to what it would have been had I just plundered along with the beta patch issue and the FORMID problem.

Here's what I've done:

Uninstalled Oblivion....completely!
Cleaned up all Windows Registry references to the game using CCleaner/Issues app
Rebooted the PC
Installed Oblivion anew
Applied the Final Patch 1.1
Installed my previously installed MODs
Installed Knights of the Nine
Installed Shivering Isles
Used the ORIDFix to check a previous QUICKSAVE.ess file. Got the notice that it had Rolled Over and prompted me to click on Fix me.....did so.
Changed the name of the original quicksave.ess to quicksave.es_
Renamed the ORID_quicksave.ess to quicksave.ess

Loaded up Oblivion, loaded up the quicksave and....Voila' I'm back in the game again.

No more dealings with the Beta patch until someone can confirm it works without breaking the game.

I've since saved two new games and am proceeding from Aichan Prison...where I'd asked a question only a short time ago (in the SPOILERS Thread) about how to unlock those two gates in the interior. (Still no answer on that one.)

Hmm..I just re-installed my copy of Oblivion w/ saved games to play Shivering Isles. Wonder if I might be free of the bug but doing your fix.
