If you mean the 360 elite it should already be out in the us.

yeah the elite is already out but the elite parts are already starting to seep down into the standard production line. So having HDMI and the new quieter drives will become standard soon. As for the smaller chips, I'm pretty sure they havent gone down in size yet. no 65nm yet. And the 120gb drives will probably only be available for the elites initially.

Welcome to the fun!.. glad you 'jumped in'. I'm so happy I bought mine in Jan, especially since trying to keep up with the hardware on the PC is near impossible now. 1000Watt PSU's , $900 video cards, Vista, etc.. it's just not worth it anymore. And when you consider most of the games are now getting designed for consoles first and ported to PC's.. it's a no brainer.

Get a Gold account and check out some cool arcade stuff like UNO and MINI golf too!

Totally agree man. When I first played Gears in HD I was blown away and left with one thought: Why the hell doesn't my $650 gfx card look and run like this? I had my doubts but its a very nice console and nothing beats the couch

Don't forget to download the map packs for GoW and anything else available for your games -some things are not free tho

Castlevania is totally worth the points if you have any to spare

I'm still not an owner myself, for only one reason.. Heat.
Every console i've had the pleasure of playing has some serious overheating issues.
Some of my friends have even gone through several replacements as a result.
I can't justify that kind of money for something that will have a short life

However that being said, I'm still jelous

OMG.. heat is the issue?.. really?.. Its pretty simple to just put the unit on its own seperate shelf or leave it out on a table. Don't stack it into a rack system and make sure you store it horizontal. Pretty simple. I havn't had any problems other then noise. Don't let a few friends bad placement choices stop you. If you're really parinoid you should buy the ESP from the store if they can promise you a replacement unit on the spot if it breaks. (my store I bought mine from will replace my unit with a brand new one off the shelf and let me keep the hard-drive-- no worries here)

Well I do wish it were that simple..Unfortunatly the xbox runs hot in design.
I can share my experience with my roomates xbox360.
We have it sitting out on its own stand a few feet in front on the TV,
so that it doesn't have anything obstructing the airflow in anyway.
I've also added better rubber stickers under the xbox to elevate it a little bit better than the
stock ones can provide, thus allowing a little better air flow under the unit.
We've tried the unit in both positions, it does run a tad cooler in the horizontal position.
Either way, 15mins of gameplay yields quite a bit of heat.
And I live in Eastern Canada, So my environment is quite cold as of late.

There are 3rd party cooling solutions available, unfortunatly, some of which are bad for the xbox.
And these devices also void your warranty. So in short you cannot cool off your unit

As for service plans, unfortunatly, I have FutureShop (best buy) in my area that has the best plan.
Though this plan is a ripoff, I've been scammed by them not replacing a device before.
Aside from the long waiting period to get my item fixed, they did not even fully honor the
plan the next time my item broke down.(which was a flaw in design as explained to me by
the manufacturer)
The store claims many things about their service plan that they do not honor.

Not trying to give you a hard time, but as you can see its just not that easy for me to buy an Xbox and feel safe.
This is certainly not an Xbox only problem, the PS3 suffers from the same issues.

Though i've yet to see the Xbox Elite in action, I am hoping maybe MS fixed something.

You should look into EB/Gamestop if one is close to you. They replace my consoles on the spot with brand new ones and they don't even test the old one first. Their plans are also WAY cheaper than Best Buy's.
As for the heat, I have to say that newer 360's run a little cooler and quieter than the first batches. Also if you are lucky enough to find one with a BenQ dvd drive it will very quiet even while gaming. I got the samsung drive and I will admit it's pretty damn loud when a disk is in there. Here's how you can tell which drive is which

Ah yes EB, I do have one nearby, I may go take a peek.
As far as noise, I couldn't care less if it sounds like a wind tunnel as long as my machine doesn't melt

Heh, you should hear my PC. Though she's nice and cool at 28C on air cooling.

What you say is true! I never really wanted one since I did not play my xbox 1 and game cube all that much and was more into the computer but once and for all I do think PC gaming is going down hill and picking up speed to the bottom very fast.

There comes a point where everyone stops and thinks; Is this really what I want to be spending my money on? $600+ just for one video card is a lot of money let alone some of the super high prices of the CPU's. Sure I can update some of my parts once a year but man that $400 or in some cases $480 xbox 360 sure does look sweet.

Maybe the graphics are not as always shocking as the pc and while I agree spend just 1 second before you go on about how PC games can kill any console game out to date. While the PC is more powerful you have to spend no less than $1,500 to even come close and for what? When I play Gears of War and Call of Duty 3 I am like yeah these games are great and while they could maybe even looked a little better on the PC is it worth not having all the fun curb stomping your friends and telling everyone how good you are until you find yourself dying every other round?

Face is guys the PC just costs to much. I was always a PC gamer due to the fact that you could talk over Teamspeak and it was just easier to use the mouse and keyboard. Well with a little practice with the controller it's really not that hard. On the other note Xbox live really is and always will be the best gaming idea to date.

Sure Sony is coming out with that Home idea and it looks kind of cool but when I have time to play my console I want to be playing a game and from Sony's track record and the few videos I have seen it looks like if you want to put cool stuff in your house you will have to buy everything. I will be happy with my 360 and the amazing features being updated all the time on my xbox 360! I just love it! I also don't care that we have to pay. $50 for 13 months is about going to get fast food once a month. I don't find that much of anything.
