GoW and GTA IV were pushing me to get an Xbox360 but with this announcment I'll get a 8800GTS (it will definitely handle it) and enjoy it with better graphics and higher framerate than the console crowd

Watching the PC video that was released I noticed a nice boost in framerate as well. Can't wait to buy this for my XP rig. Being able to play on LIVE as well is a nice bonus, but I would have bought Gears for the PC without the bonuses.. (extra maps,gametypes etc) I'm stoked for this game.

Gamespot says GoW PC is DX10 for Vista, DX9 for XP. If true it'll be way better looking than the 360 version and worth the wait.

in a perfect world maybe, but most of the console "ports" ive seen lately blow, i guess we will have to wait and see on that. Heres a fact that a $10k PC, dx10 and vista cant change.....it is an old game.

Ok...Did you just say a game that was created, and now ported by EPIC will blow on PC? do you know who you're talking about? the Unreal 3 engine, as much as it has been used on 360, is a PC engine first and foremost, Epic are still a PC centric dev studio, and know exactly how to create games for it.

As for Gears being an "old" game, it'll by barely a year old upon release, and have extra content that the 360 version will never have, that, added to the fact that many PC owners do not own a 360 means that Gears will be more than just another console port.

Gears is one game I don't mind paying twice for. What's wrong with owning both?!.. I can't wait to try out some mouse+keyboard control finally. I will be able to finally compete with people online now.

yea, thats why we haven't seen one screenshot of GoW2 and the playstation 3 and PC is getting UT3 this Nov. when the 360 is waiting till 2008. Haha. And old game? Unreal Engine 3 is one of the latest and most versatile engines out right now that can do a hell of a lot of things. Unreal Engine 2.5 still looks great.

but I may still buy a 360 this time...

just to clear it up for you, no i didnt say a port from epic WILL blow, re-read my post.
chances are it will be a good port as it is epic....just take a look at 360 to PC ports in the past to see why im not holding my breath no matter who it is. (for example, rainbow six vegas, Unreal engine 3 game, SHIT port on pc)
as for 1 year not being old for a game..are you serious? with the amount of games coming out these days 1 year is a lot of time.
now about extra content, ok cool, PC is getting extra content but to say 360 will never get it is rubbish, it would be simple for epic to release these maps on market place.

RS:V for PC was a great game and contained none of the signs of a terrible port (such as xbox controls, poor framerate and terrible menus).

R6 Vegas is good game, definitely unfortunate it was ported from the console but it runs really well. FSAA doesn't work, no widescreen nor have EAX4 or EAX5 support, besides those issues I can't complain. Don't expect UT3 to be like this, and with Epic publishing Go on PC i expect the same.

on your system maybe, on an average system it was shoddy as hell.
my rig is crappy so i didnt really think much about the port quality.
but i read many a post on different forums (even a post or 2 here) about how the frame rate was inconsistant at best and in some areas is was beyond the joke....

oh and as for "xbox controls" being a sign of a shoddy port, thats your opinion....imo, an xbox control is just as easy and accurate to play a fps game as a keyboard mouse combo.
