Improving Oblivion Performance help
Ever since I got my new HIS x1950pro, the FPS for Oblivion should be better than my old x800XL card. The performance in the game is about the same as my old card at the same settings (1280 x 800). So I was wondering if you guys can give me some pointers on what I need to do and if there is any line in the .ini file I need to edit.
Also I don't use shadows at all in games. I don't really need them and another way to see more light. All the other games I play like Prey, FEAR, etc. I get better FPS than my old card. I knew that the elderscrolls games are ahead of its time. One last thing, does a dual core processor, processor with HT make any difference in gaming or does a single core at 3.0 GHz outduals a 1.8 Ghz dual core. Just curious. Thanks for any help. |

The previous two responders have given you some good suggestions.
I'm just curious, though: Exactly what kind of FPS are you getting? Indoors vs. Wilderness? As for the Dual Core (HT) question: The game really has to be designed to make use of it. I noticed some very significant difference when I went from a 478 P4 3.2 GHz to an E6700 w/ true Dual Core performance. But, the biggest difference I saw was when I went from 1 GB of Dual Channel RAM to 2 GB. BUT, that shouldn't be a consideration for you since you've got the optimum amount of RAM for XP. OR, is your "OTHER" OS Vista? |

Yeah, I've gotten Oblivion 3 days after it came out, but haven't really played it much. I only have two characters one at level 5 and other at level 2. So I don't know where to find the mods anymore. I know for Morrowind for the longest time I went to Morrowind Summit. So I was wondering where can I find the mods?
As for Other in the OS I put down it is actually Windows XP MCE 2005 ed since there isn't an option for that one. Also I heard that the game takes full advantage of processors with Dual Core and HT. Gotta find how to activate that one. Funny thing about Morrowind is that I still get bad FPS in Balmora, Ebonheart, and get this 15 FPS in Solstheim by the Factors Estate LOL. So I mean the engine used in Morrowind was not the most efficient engine. One thing I like about Blizzard is they make games where the majority of the people can play it in without upgrading. |
