Steam Problem!
I've been trying to resolve this problem since yesterday with steam.I can no longer download or purchase games via steam.
Been trying to download the company of heroes demo via steam... Then i get a message "Steam is already running" (pic Below). I'm also after the Quake package and i am unable to purchase this via steam. I have tried everything.. login out,Resetting my modem.I currently don't have any viras/Firewaal software installed.Due to a reinstall. Any ideas to solve this problem.. or is any one else have this same problem. ![]() Ive also registered on the steam forum. And i am waiting on the admin to activate this account. Even though my current steam games can still be accessed and was currently updated.I never seen this problem using windows XP Pro.. Last edited by MIG-31; Aug 10, 2007 at 09:03 PM. |

The rare time I get this message (with other programs) is when Steam is already running. After you quit/close completely the application, check the task manager to see if a process related to steam is still running. If it is, shut it down.

The only thing I can think of then is to back up the games and uninstall, install Steam again.
Stupid question, but, you have tried it again after cold rebooting the system, right? About the demo of CoH. No reason to try it. Just get the game when you can, it is that good.

Had the same problem when i purchased Day of Defeat
Right click on the Steam shortcut, properties, compatability tab, and check "run as administrator". That should sort it out, as it allows steam to have full access to your pc. |

You could also try the most typical fix for all steam errors for the last several years from loading errors, to connection problems.
Try this: Exit steam, with vista sometimes the process stays running so be sure to check in the processes and the services tabs of your task manager. Go to your program files/steam directory and delete clientregistry.blob. Do not panic as when you restart steam it will automatically redownload this file. Restart steam. If that does not work valve also suggests the following: This error message indicates that Steam is not loading properly and is running in your Task Manager's Processes without launching the user interface. The issue is usually caused by wareout/idemlog/idesk mfc application spyware which may be ignored by some spyware removal tools. The simplest way to resolve this issue is to download and run fixwareout.exe or another tool that has been identified to remove wareout/idemlog/idesk mfc application spyware . You can find fixwareout.exe here (linked from valve support) http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe On an off note I bought the iD super pack and they use dosBOX to make their old school games run without us having to configure it, rather ingenious and congrats to the dosBOX creators! The games even work great on Vista! Valve support source: http://support.steampowered.com/cgi-...i=&p_topview=1

I can see the original poster fixed their problem, i'd just like to say for anyone else who comes along with this problem (like me :@) deleting the other BLOB file in your program files/steam folder did the trick for me. and i couldn't find that advice anywhere else on the internet, so you heard it here first.

i had the same issue, this can be sometimes caused by steam losing a track of the "programs" folder, especially on vista 64bit as its tagged (x86). I just always install steam onto D drive now into a folder called "steam". this issue has never reappeared.
