Depends on what kind of internet activation the game requires. If it requires you to activate it each time you install it, then I would go for the Steam version. At least the chance that Steam servers will stay alive longer is greater.

It is hard to believe that a 20min demo can be 1.8+gigs. It was a fun 20min though. I had this demo yesterday. Just got around to playing it now.

What is even harder for me is how 2K has managed to screw this Windows release and have a half ass attempt at widescreen resolutions for a 360!!! port. What a bunch of idiots.

IF I get the game I will get the 360 version because of the complete incompetence of 2K Boston.

Just played through the demo four times, man o man this game is going to own. The immersive environment is incredible!

Very well optimized too, runs nice with my conservative specs.

Well, I am not going to argue with you if it is a half ass attempt or if you are a retard or not, but in short the problem is that when you choose a widescreen resolution what it does is it crops/cuts large part from the top and bottom of the screen to make it appear like widescreen. So, come to think of it, yes, half ass attempt it is.

another game forum had posted that internet download manager greatly increased download speed for this link, and I was skeptical but went from 40kbs to 350ish, I also posted this same tool at ncix and everyones dl speed has increased by at least four times.

From what I understand this game is supposed to fully support widescreen scaling. Maybe it is just the demo that will be cropped at high resolutions?
It is not like they are going to code two separate games. This is a port and we PC users understand that.

Speaking of the demo, both ATI and Nvidia have released beta drivers for Bioshock. In ATI's case they call it a "hot fix"... a 100mb hot fix, that is. What's sad is it's coming down at 40mb/s for me.

In any event, for the ATI "hot fix" drivers (2 links: 1 for XP, and 1 for Vista) check HERE (and supposedly they support 32bit and 64bit versions of Vista and XP), and the beta nVidia drivers (XP through Vista, 32bit and 64bit versions) check HERE.

As for the ATI/AMD Hotfix: I got it pretty fast. Maybe the servers are getting hammered for it now.

At any rate, I also got a few 'error copying file' messages during the installation of the hotfix. Twice!

But, the game plays splendid at 1280x1024. I was seeing upper 30s to 40s FPS.

Yeah, all of a sudden the speed went through the roof by mid way download. I just finished downloading the demo, and I'm gonna give both a shot before I head.. just before I head to bed no less.

To be honest, I'm picking it up first thing tomorrow morning for the PC, but this will give me a chance to fool around with it, finding out the best setup for it, and so fourth. Plus.. we'll see if I need to make that upgrade to an 8800 now, or whether I can put it off until the X38 boards come out like I was planning on.

I am not sure I understand the first part of your post. If as you say they are not going to code two seperate games, then why the demo not having real ws support means that the full game might have proper ws support?


As for the forum link, if you notice the last page, looks like 2K kind of, lied.

Unless the full game is different, which as you said is doubtful.

I actually just went through the entire demo once more...this time using my XBOX 360 controller. I cranked up all the settings as much as possible...including the image quality in CCC. But, I noticed NO difference at all. So, it's possible the demo doesn't allow for IQ controls. Not sure about the final game, though.

As for playing with KB/Mouse compared to the 360 controller, I actually enjoyed the controller a bit more on this time around.

Blue, what widescreen resolution are you trying to run in?

The reason I ask is this: in the posting the lead programmer mentioned that, "The game will render in full 16:9 aspect ratio, with no letterboxing unless your resolution is not true 16:9." That has me thinking about what resolutions some widescreen monitors display at, cuz there are very few monitor resolutions that are "true" 16:9. Most are 16:10. Resolutions like 1280x720, and 1366x768 are the only ones that I can think of that are true 16:9, while 1280x800, 1440x900, 1680x1050, 1920x1200, and 2560x1600, the most common widescreen LCD resolutions, are 16:10.

Only problem with this thinking is that later on in the posting he mentions they support all 16:9/16:10 widescreen resolutions. So, it's anyones guess as to why it's not working if this is the case.
