This is pretty significant..

I've tested about 4 different brand name Wireless Security cameras... all of which are nailed by this weird issue.


I've had these cameras for quite awhile, are in stock, They use the 2.4ghz band, and are directly connected to either a TV or to a Security recorder. (AKA, the camera itself is mounted and powered somewhere, the receiver is then mounted and power and connected close to the recorder or TV)...

The distance of these camera range depending on of course what it has to drill through (walls/etc.)... but can typically make it a full 100 feet through several walls and some steel) or up to 500 feet for clear line of sight..

I didn't have any problems until about 2 weeks ago suddenly. Huge interferance to full on connectivity being lost. Trying to track down the problem, i opened up another new camera plugged it in and boom, instant problem still.

Even took the camera within 2 feet of the receiver and still issues.

I set the recorder to sound an alarm when connectivity was lost and well, it contantly beeped, but i let it go.

I didn't find out what was causing it until recently when i moved the Xbox360 i had on display to another location, emedately unplugging everything resulted in no alarm going off constantly... Intrigued, i plugged everything back in and emediately the problem arose.

It appears the anything with what i found EXTREMELY strange, a 50 foot (estimated) range of the xbox PSU on the same band as all these wireless security cameras, would be completely toast. It could be much larger however.

However the Xbox360 PSU has a FCC rating which states that it has passed the quality standards, and listed in those standards is that it is to NOT interfeer with other products but should accept interfeerance from anything else. Apparently this isn't correct.

So i found someone else with another Xbox360 and someone with an Elite which is more recent, both of which the PSU's also interfeer in the same way.


IMO this is a pretty considerable security threat.... All anyone has to do is grab the psu brick for an XBOX360, plug it in without the xbox360 itself, and walk within the yard of such a security system and bam, they are in the dark.

Hell even the APC/Belkin UPS system i've had in here don't produce that kind of results, and they are running in the 500-100 watt ranges. I expect some form of interferance from them, but not as huge as the xbox360 power bar..

Can anyone else confirm this?

just wrap it in tin foil, and connect a wire from the foil to the ground pin of a socket out let, that *should* help get rid of some of the interference

you should also, if possible, check another psu - or even try the psu on another power circuit, to see if it still emits the same amount of EMI

It does,

I've taken it to 3 or 4 different places with a security camera.... it doesn't appear any form of metal between the psu and the camera is going to change anything..

Gonna be kinda strange with tinfoil wrapped around the psu.

as i mentioned before... i checked 2 other xbox360 psu's... they do the exact same thing.

have you tried plugging in the PSU without the xbox?

cause the xbox puts out a passive 2.4ghz signal. it constantly tries to find new ccontrollers to connect to.

its just a thought.

try it without the xbox connected and see if it still does it.

That's what i'm saying...

without the PSU plugged into the XBOX360, (just pluging in the power to the PSU and then not attaching anything else)... it spits out the huge interferance..

I noticed my iphone was unable to find my wireless router (that is about 3 feet from the 360) when it is on... all starting to make sense now!

Hang on, aren't these devices supposed to be shielded against EM interference, I would contact MS about it if I were you, as that situation looks to be pretty unacceptable.

Keep at it, I thought we were past consumer electronics that messed with wireless equipment (I still remember mobile phones that caused TVs to go mad and radios to buxx when in use, yikes).

Hehe, lets just say my life has been in flux for the last year or so, moved around 4 times (Mainly stayed with friends etc), didn't have the internet for the majority, but I have finally got my own place and internet, and am enjoying every second, so I am much better now that I was, maybe it's a misplaced hope but I hope to re-establish myself here
