Steam Question

Is it possible to install games on other folders and drive than the one where Steam is installed?

I don't think so. All Steam games are automatically installed in the Steam folder. But that would be a cool if they added it Steam.

don't think so (somebody might know better).

you can install steam client individualy (but concurrently) on different partitions/drives, and install the games to whichever you like, so long as it has a copy of steam installed on it though if memory serves right. that what you meant?

Eh, you mean I can install Steam more than once in a system, at the same time?

What I mean is this, I have Steam install on drive I: but all the games I install are on drive G: So I want to install Steam games on drive G: as well, without having to do the whole uninstalling all of the games, and re download them and etc etc.

simple. just tell steam to "back up" your games. move the backups to drive G. then uninstall steam. reinstall it to G, and load your backups.

or just transfer the whole folder. Steam is very movable. I transfer te steam game folders all the time and it doesnt give me lip. just reinstall Steam to the desired drive and you're set. no fuss no redownloading

I was just going to say, too, I've moved my Steam folder around several times and just run the Steam.exe from the new location. Haven't had any issues yet.

Wow, like BeOS then?
Well, the folder is only just above 11GB so I guess I could try that and hope I don't need to redownload everything lol.

Be sure to Copy it over first and then run it before you delete the original location.

As long as you just copy the steam folder to another directory you can re-install steam to that directory, after initial uninstall, and it will work just fine with the only re-download being steam engine updates. In fact I did that just last night myself.

I finished moving the files, run steam.exe my firewall asked me etc, but everything works fine so far. I tried Defecon, Pirates!, Space Empire V and all work fine.

I must say that I also like it, I think it is a very conveniant way in purchasing and organizing games. Plus that it is automatically installs patches and updates..

I like it as well. It has come a long way from when they first introduced it. Have any of you guys tried EA's version? It sucks. I'm glad I haven't purchased any games off of that one.

I love steam. I thought it was a great system. Although bioshock does NOT work with their business model at all. But I bought the 360 version so thats not an issue I guess.
