Using a mouse used to get more accurate controls, though not as realistic. Well, at least that was with the last MS-FS I tried back in 1987.

I would recommend a joystick. I use the Logitech Cordless Freedom 2.4Ghz and after installing FSX I didn't need to configure anything to get up and running correctly.
I can't imagine using the game without a joystick because there is just too much going on when you are playing. |

You will definately want a stick.
I used a Cordless Freedom for awhile in FS9, and IL2 and used it HARD. It was ok for about a year or so, but with a lot of hours on it, it did start to get 'sloppy', and throttle response got to be a bit twitchy. I also used re-chargable batteries in it as I tended to go thru them at a pretty good rate. All in all, it's not a bad stick, and I really liked the fact that I didn't have wires all over the place. There are a lot of 'Logitech Haters' out there in the FS world, who claim that their quality is sub-par, but I didn't find that to be the case. I think a lot of it is just like the M$ haters that think their epenis is bigger because they 'dis' a certain brand or two ![]() I have since, replaced it with a Saitek X-52, and then added the Saitek Rudder Pedals. As well as I liked the Cordless freedom, and the MS Sidewinder I had before that, this combination makes them both seem shabby. It's much more programmable, altho the programming software isn't all that user friendly, and poorly documented. I really like it and recommend it with no reservations. It mostly depends on your budget, but the Cordless Freedom, X-52, and X-52 Pro would all do an excelent job for you. Adding rudder pedals would be icing on the cake, and not really necessary as the mentioned sticks all have a twist axis for rudder control. However, once I got used to the pedals, I'll never go back to a 'twisty stick'. The pedels give a degree of control over the rudder that is just impossible to acheive with a stick. Just my $0.02. Hope it helps you a bit.
