Half life 2+ep 1+ep2 and all source games

well..i have completely given up with valve- all together.

Do not get me wrong i enjoy half life all the time, I even play half life 1 and its respective expansions and mods- but alas, that is all i can enjoy.

i bought Hl 2 and ep 1. the first time the game ran flawlessly yet now all source games suffer with this freeze/sound hitch problem...very annoying.

i even attempted this new found fix regarding file page pool or something- followed the instruction exactly stated..yet nothing.

now my colleague from work has purchased the orange box. He too is a big fan of HL series...yet he too has suffered what i am now suffering. so the orange box is pretty much a box now- nothing more.

he has beyond what the game requires, as do , yet the game cannot be played.

i have tried many many methods of trying to remedy this problem. i was even thinking of going as far as purchasing 360 so i can play the game..but i dont enjoy fps on console.

my specs are great- i run bioshock, fear, oblivion (many others) with high end details enabled, even 4AA runs great.

i would really enjoy to play more of hl 2 + exp but with this major flaw in the engine i cannot. hopefully Valve (which they wont) will open their eyes - for the next episode or more importantly hl 3 (if ever) - but if it will be on source, which i doubt, then i wont even bother with it.

oh well - going to give COD 4 a try and UNreal 3- game on folks- good gaming!

What is your soundcard? Is it a sound issue?

sound card is Creative Xtreme gamer - i have the latest drivers installed. i have lowered the acceleration via control panel for this card - on all levels- does nothing.

i have no issues with any other game- except max payne 2...dont know why- that game stalls every so often. very annoying as well- great game- waste of $10 really.

we need to be able to rent cpu games- seriously- demos dont count

yeah you can argue well burners pirtaes blah blah blah- pirates still burn and crack hack games from video game shops= so who cares. i do, but then again i lost money

The hitch problem in the past used to be due to video drivers, try doing the following which you should do regularly anyways.

1. update video card drivers
2. update audio card drivers
3. update chipset drivers
4. if you are running a VIRTUAL DRIVE alot of games don't like them so turn it off

Could you give your full pc specs, and the issue is your having sound hiccups in any Source game, correct? Perhaps when your not so angry

I have had similar issues in the past but was able to resolve them.

Have you tried removing your Creative card and just using the onboard sound?

If none of the above suggestions work i do seriously suggest sending emails and playing the angry customer, works for me

i have

amd athlon 4400x2 @ 2.60ghz
2 1900 crossfires (i have also turned of CF mode that did nothing) they are not oC'd

creative xtreme gamer soundcard
2gb OCZ 4000 memory platinum xtc edition
a8r mvp 32 deluxe mobo

i DO have virtual drivers on so ill get rid of them right away.
ill see if i can obtain newer updates to my sound and video.
i already installed chipset drivers from my mobo cd but ill check website ASUS if ther are newer versions.

now the funny is...all source games are messed- all of them same problem. also- max payne EVEN stranglehold does the exact same...i played COD 4- perfect gaming. perfect fps- no mess ups. i played timeshift earlie in the morning and i got the same results high fps- no stutter no hitching nothing- just fun game play.

thanks for the input everyone- ill give all that a shot again- and when i used onboard audio (with updated drivers from the realtek website) it did not work.

im not using vista nor winxp64 im using winxp 32 bit.

i defragged all my drivers- i do this once or two times a week.

i virus scan daily- andi do not run virus scanners in background while gaming- ever.

i played these gamers perfectly when i had my old pc (hl 2, ep1 and max payne 1 and 2)

i had a amd athlon 2800
9800 radeon PRO 128mb
1gb of generic ram- no overclock on anything- i nf7 abit mobo- and a SB 128 pci sound card

they ran incredible...now- higher end system cant play LAUGHINGOUTLOUD (actually im steaming angry hehe)

well again thanks everyone for the help- i appreciate it- although i know valve wont give two frags about this problem i will send them emails because its a wste of money and time. two things we cantget enough of and the two things we lose quickly.

ill keep a post up- game on! oh also JERICHO does this as well- but NO sound hitching- just a freeze..could be cause its demo and a port- ill see what happens when it is released.
