The Witcher (Arrives October 26)

This game just looks sooooo cool! But, I'm hesitant to get my expectations up too high. I felt much the same way prior to the release of Dark Messiah and was a bit disappointed with that title.

I have it, it's a great game! I loved it, the loading times take a bit TOO long on my computer though

OMG this game is fantastic.... its actually quality stuff
it is bloody system hogging though hehe when you see it you will know why though....

B-E-utifull game, whats with all the quality games coming out lately its a like a (QFT = if sex was games then at the minute its = ORGY lol

anyway back on topic,. people will be very suprized over this game from the minute you load it up the intro is spectacular right down to the visuals and fighting system,,,

did i forgot to say this game is very mature lol 18+++ it even has SEX for all those no lifers lol basicly has a card system where all the woman you have sex with give you sexy pictures that you can stack up so you dont forget who you slept with or who was the most sexy lol (old timers, your wish has come true lol)

Thats a negative, its very realistic its not linear at all you have lots of questions and depending on what you say you could end up in trouble or not or say something that could upset someone or not ;P
its a very open ended world aswell you can practacly go anywhere to explore

the fighting system is genious if you ask me, you also have 3 diffrent styles of camera angles, there is a point and click style just like diablo ect or baulders gate ect, there is a down and dirty camera angle if you want to get up close and personal when fighting ect ;P

and finaly there is a over the sholder camera view AKA resident evil 4 type view..

also everyone you talk to has something to say and when you do talk to someone you get 3dinteractivity where the camera pans AKA oblivion type talking aswell as choices in what you say to them, if you say something wrong to piss someone off they will fight you and i can almost garantee you will get you ass handed to you untill you can get stronger ect ect,

there is fighting tournaments aswell, helps build your strenth up ect and fighting styles you have 3 of them out in combat,

also has a good day and night system where at night its far more dangerous than say during the day...

also your name is WOLF, your actually a wolf how cool is that lol

anyway this game rocks i just hope it doesnt get hidden away becuse of all the hyped games coming out very soon.

did i also forget to say this games graphics are right up there with oblivions and most of the time surpasses them, knowing just that should sell copys of this game.

The game looks good. I just found it is going to be available through gamersgate too, so if the price is right I will get it that way.

Any clarifications on that camera angle? IMO, Diablo fighting style was crap, Baldur's Gate was quite good, and ToEE was fastastic, to give an idea of what I like.

This game looks good though, I'll probably pick it up at some point.

Has anyone located a demo? The game is on sale on Gamersgate for 49.99 euros for european customers. Unless the game can give me food for a week too, I am not going to pay that much money for it, at least without playing a demo of it.

On Play.com is 11 euros cheaper.

Of course in the USA the game is the same number only in $US. Glad to see europeans are getting the finger again from the companies.

We get the same thing in Canada, goods priced higher than in the US, even though our dollar is higher than theirs.

Ironically, retail stores are complaining that they're losing sales to the US, when 80% of Canadians live within a 2 hour drive of the States.

I don't see anything about a demo for the game anywhere...

Combat takes some getting used to, its not mindless you actually have to pay attention, and when you get down the timing and the swapping of "stances" its a great combat system.

i played it at my friends today, and I think its great. the problem appears to be the people complaining are using the simplified combat mode. There is certainly nothing wrong with the advanced method anyway.

I really like this, very polished, and the engine is nice and apparently bug free on the newest nvidia drivers.

I finally got it Wednesday afternoon and got it installed when I got home from work.

It's a fantastic game! The story is very captivating. The gameplay is very intuitive.

One thing I don't like is that it appears that time stands still until you meditate rather than time being dynamic like in Oblivion and Morrowind...and others. The weather can change dynamically. Anyone else notice this? or am I wrong? It just seems if you're fighting at night, night time never ends.

Otherwise, it's hard to stop playing.

time does move - just slowly. if you hover the mouse over the weather icon top right you will see the time in 24 hour clock.

Is it actually changing in real time? It really does seem that slow then.

I did notice the clock and it was still 3:30 a.m. after I'd been through numerous fights and traveled all over the Outskirts. Started looking for a campfire and was told I couldn't meditate while fighting. I've been through that scenario before.

Got a little problem at the Salamandra HideOut. Geralt gets 'stuck' in the doorway while being whacked by about 5 opponents. Very distressing gameplay experience.

I was finally able to work through it, but, this shouldn't be happening. I couldn't even leap over them, dodge the blows or anything of that nature. I could...to some degree...fight. Eventually I could actually back up into a corridor that really isn't supposed to exist. After the fight was over, I found the door to exit back outside.

UPDATE News on "The Witcher":

Patch 1.2 is now in the works and expected to be released prior to Christmas. That's the 'good' news, I suppose.

The 'bad' news is that, many of the updates "may not take affect unless [one] starts from scratch." That's the quote from one of the CDProjekt Developers.

I, for one, am not really interested in a patch that breaks the game after having spent dozens and dozens of hours playing. Also, many of these problems that do exist should never have gotten through beta. I'm speaking as a former beta tester for Atari/Infogrames titles, too.

Having reached Chapter 3 in my limited playing time I'm not really interested in starting all over again.

(At one point, I got so disgusted with the technical problem I was having, I quit the game, left the house and went to Wal-Mart and bought Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare!)

Since then, I've also picked up Crysis and haven't even started The Witcher in the interim.

But, the story is excellent and is the only reason I keep trudging along at all.

Soooo, I think my experience with The Witcher is in limbo until I find out if this patch really does break the game or not.
