DiRT frame rate problems with good system?

I tried the demo and once it was running good and once very bad with races with other cars on the road.
Even reaching single digit frame rate.

A friend gave me his full game for a while and I couldn't make it not run like crap with any race that had other cars in.

I read something about the game having problem with requiring internet connection active and that when you let it you get higher frame rate. Don't know if it is true or not but it might help some.
What I did to fix the problems I was having was to change the sound options from Hardware (or Openal) to SOFTWARE mode and disable the DSP and put sound quality at medium. Restart the game and the game has no noticable frame drops between races. Good frame rate and better driving.

(the game still isn't as good as Toca Race Driver 3 though).

I hope this help some of you that have good powerful systems and can't figure out the drop in frames.

I had heard it was the sound issues that lowered the framerate. Someone tweaked the files and I found it did increase the framerate at a cost of slightly buggy sound if you tried anything other than a 2 speaker configuration.

Is the DiRT demo supposed to run with high FPS with a video card such as the 7900GT? That's still a good card but when I tried the demo, I got very low framerates (below 1 fps) with high settings.

After I set every video settings to their lowest and modified a config file to disable post-processing, I was still getting low fps (worse with other cars).

OmegaRED, does this fix work on the demo?

Yes it works with the demo and no it won't run well on a 7900GT, or rather it might be fine but only if you're racing by yourself because it's other cars cause the framerate drops.
