Call of Duty 4 : How to modify the music volume.
I hope this description helps someone. I was hoping for a better method but at least it works for now.
#1) Download MP3Gain, a freeware program that can change the volume of MP3 files. MP3Gain Downloads #2) Create the folder structure \Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\Mods\music_mod\sound\music. The \Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\ folder is located wherever you installed the game. #3) Extract the music MP3 files from within the game file iw_11.iwd into that folder. The compression format for the file is common ZIP but you'll have to manually open the file in a program like WinZip/WinRAR/7-Zip. Extract just the MP3 files in the music subdirectory. #4) Start MP3Gain and open all those music MP3 files in the program. (drag&drop is quickest) #5) Choose a new volume level for the files, the MP3Gain default of 89dB (target box) is quite good if you want to hear the music in the background at a more subdued volume level. 80dB would make the music volume really low and a lower value than that could make it silent. Click the Track Gain button when you want to modify the music files, which will take a minute or two. #6) Start the game using the following command line for the shortcut. "E:\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\iw3sp.exe" +set fs_game mods/music_mod |
