need som help with Crysis

hi guys/Gals..

i'm having a strange problem with Crysis, for some strange reason i'm unable to open the console... I press (~) and it doesn't do any thing..

do I need to add some thing to the short cut running string to enable it?

thanks all..

p.s. - this game really needs a quad core GPU to run.. I'm can't really enjoy the game with my specs at more then medium (some high) settings at 1280X960... and forget AA&AAF.. this is really next years game.. should have been released at the end of Q4 2008..

come on guys.. why can't i enable or enter the console in crysis on vista system????

I checked the ~~``` key and as you can see it works fine on my keyboard.. so whats the problem??

Well thanks for your reply but I've already been there... and there is no mention to solving my problem.. for some strang reason the console just wont come up.. even when adding the Devmode to the command line.. all the *.cfg files I've added work and do what the guide says but other then that I'm unable to get the console to open....!?!? sounds so strange.. won't you say?

again... the key needed to open the console works on my keyboard.. I'll proove it... ~~~~~~~~~~~`````````````````

Maybe it's a Vista issue (just Vista specific or your Vista installation got messed up) because I can bring up the console command promt for Crysis in XP.

the console comes up for me in vista with the key beside the "1" the "`¬" key.

In view of Zardon's comment and one of your comments above, it seems like you might have a corrupt game (Crysis) installation or bad game DVD (since you said you tried reinstalling the game, or as I said before, maybe your Vista installation has gone bad, but that doesn't seem likely since you can use the tilde key (~) outside of the game.

Sorry, but other than what's stated above, I'm out of ideas.

What is the windows/keyboard localisation? If the keyboard is other than english US or UK, you might have the key in another place, even if the key itself has the proper scetch on it.
Open Notepad or Wordpad and hit the key that is left of the "1" and over the "Tab" keys. When you do, what does it appear on screen?

I'm playing on Vista 32-bit Home Premium. Hadn't actually tried the Console command until just now. It works flawlessly. I'm using a Wireless/USB keyboard/mouse combo and playing with my XBOX 360 Controller.

Sounds like something's funky with your keyboard. Do you happen to have another one handy to try?

im sure his keyboard is fine, if the keypresses are showing up in notepad. as thomas stated above there really are limited problems, the first one being a game installation issue. I would personally try hitting every key around the numeric section in game to see if something else works due to a possible localisation keymapping issue.

well my local is not set to uk or usa maybe this is the problem...?!

I'll try what you guys said..

1. pressing all the keys on the key board.. maybe I'll find it..
2. change the localization to UK or USA and see if that helps..
3. if nothing helps then I'll continue as is cause I dont want to loose my profile in the middle of the game..

thanks again for checking your rigs for me.. now I know it must be a problem with my rig/installation...

Try going to the game.cfg file and make sure that the console is bound to ~ (My Documents\My games\Crysis).

You should be able to open the console via ~, but you will not be able to use all commands unless you type con_restricted 0 in the console or make a System.cfg file, place it in the Config directory (EA\Crytek\Crysis\Game\Config), and put con_restricted = 0 in it. The later avoids having to type it in the console every time.

sounds like a plan.. I'll check the game.cfg... haven't tried that yet..

as for the system.cfg and autoexec.cfg - i've already implemented them into the game to make the changes.. i've found some good proposals on some forums and they did wonders with my fps.. :-) I'm able to work with 1280X1024 using DX9 with almost every thing at full and get an avg of 45 fps.. which is great game play..

it only dips to about 25 - 30 in really high impact levels with many explosions and alot of smoke..

I really would like to play this game at 1900X1200 with DX10 every setting at very high and full AA & AAF....

its seems like the file you mentioned is missing in my install directory..

just to make sure.. is it "game.cfg" ?

can any one post the content of this file as its is on you pc.. Zardon can you post since you have it installed on vista as i do?.

On Vista, the location is: Desktop/[Username]/Documents/My Games/Crysis

[Username] = Your Name as you entered it.

And, yes, the file is game.cfg
