While there is still no logical reason for the lack of night vision or flashlights on the guns, it makes perfectly good sense in game. I think perhaps one reason for me complaining at the time (and others too) was that the game was indeed more scary and also more difficult with the lack of lights...

I haven't finished the game, I am on a break of sorts, but I will finish it withing the next couple of weeks. I am already near the end I think (I am in hell or "hell" whatever it ends up to be). The game is cool.

the game itself is very easy, if there was light. its over exaggerated darkness like splinter cell, no one keeps rooms that dimly lit. darkness isnt scary, its when bodys are stuck in the walls and organs breathing there that is scary.

that was quake 4 lol

It's bodys with breathing organs stuck in the walls AND darkness what is scary. Because the dark places are where the imagination usually starts to work.

quake 4 had darkness, remember that fight rhino squad vs stroggs in that hallway? that was so immersive! doom 3 was solo, but eh it was creepy enough for me... but very nice design elements. the PDA was pretty damn cool.
