Runescape versus RWT, players come second
In a series of updates, Jagex has acted resolutely to make RWT almost impossible, but with sweeping changes that provoked ire, forum rants and in game riots from players who's particular specialty had been disrupted.
It began with sweeping changes to the duelling arena, where to prevent illicit trades by staking expensive items and deliberately losing, the maximum stake was slashed to 3k coins per 15 minutes, an amount which would not even cover the winners usage of supplies. The player base was digesting that, and while some dedicated duellers "stakers" quit, the majority of players watched nervously from the sidelines, cursing the insane amount of bots swarming almost every resource but fearing that the cure could be just as painful. Then it happened, the December the 10th update (and some of these are not fully in effect yet, but will be, though there are also rumours that some of the changes may be reverted if other ways can be found to prevent abuse). 1. No unbalanced player to player trades - preventing illicit item transfer, but also preventing genuine gifts and possibly even some longstanding trades such as runners delivering supplies for a fee. 2. Changes to item dropping, only low value items can be seen by other players (to prevent drop trading) 3. Wilderness PvP combat removed, replaced by player-killer monsters that you can't even see coming until they attack and by a combat arena with rules to make illicit item exchange difficult. RuneScape - the massive online adventure game by Jagex Ltd RuneScape - the massive online adventure game by Jagex Ltd According to some rumours, it was the sheer volume of credit card fraud on bot accounts in members which provoked this push, as while they had been banning bots by the thousand, thousands more were autoing their way back up. The thing is, Runescape is a pretty minor MMORPG, browser based, easy to pick up and a free version, while cheap in the full members version, and I can't believe the Runescape gold has anything like the same kind of demand as in other MMORPGS. Are they all sufferring the same kind of abuse, and how do the others solve it?
