Nvidia vs ATI
Hi,
This is my first post here, so hello from UK. May i ask a subjective question. I got a new Vista pc for Christmas from Comet. It was a HP E4400 dual core 2ghz 2gb ram which has an ATI HD2400 256MB graphics card. I really like Nviidia and have just got an XFX8400GS 256MB card. I have read the comparision here but still can't decide which one to use. The review was great and i understood, but want to ask which would work best with flight sims, ie IL2, and strategy games like Medieval Total War. The Nvidia control panel i think is easier to work with, but would really value some help. Thanks in advance. Rodders. |

One more thing that you might want to consider if you use a widescreen monitor without built in scaling is that as far as I know ATI has no support in the drivers for letting the graphics card take care of correct aspect scaling (so that you can play a 4:3 resolution with black bars left and right in a 16:10 monitor and not have the image stretched to fill in the screen)
Nvidia drivers support that, though it is more like a hit and miss for systems, but at least it is there. As for which card is better in terms of performance, I don't know, but my guess would be to get another one and not the 8400GS or the HD2400. Though they should be able to handle the games you mentioned, if you are looking forward to any future 3D games, you will find yourself with horrible performance, unless perhaps if you play at 800x600.
