Spore

Anyone picking it up? The DH review makes me think its might be worth the money. Seems like an interesting game, even if it's maybe not the "gaming revolution" it was hyped up to be.

If you have it, feel free to post your creations here.

My daughter used the creature creator and made some extremely interesting stuff, especially for an 8-year-old. Everything I dittied with ended up looking like some kind of dragon, her's were way better. I'll see if I can post a couple creations later on.

Spore is a girl whose eyes are pretty and blue, but there's nobody home. As long as you advance and encounter new things in the game it'll be exciting and fun, but then you may begin to notice how little gameplay contents there really is. That said I still had quite fun while that feeling lasted. With the creature creator being one of the highlights of the game, it will last longer if you haven't previously purchased the full featured creator and played with it a lot. Younger kids will probably enjoy the creature creator as much as they would the full game, as the interaction with other creatures gets repetitive pretty fast.

A tip to every Spore gamer, don't rush to the space age, it holds some potential but definitely needs work. Hopefully that part will improve through patches and not the already(I'm sure) upcoming expansion. If you're looking with particular interest towards that latest stage then there are other games that does space so much better, like Sins of a Solar Empire for instance. There isn't much from the earlier stages of the game that carries through to the space stage anyway, creature development-wise. Though you'll certainly have a laugh when getting one of the mysteries of the earlier stages answered by what you do here.

It's pretty cool. I love the creator creator. I haven't done anything wild yet, but I know I am.

So far I'm in the "City stage". I played for about 4.5 hours to get there.
Will definitely be playing this for awhile. There's just too many possibilities.

Only complaint I have right now:
The whole first part of the game had certain controls on the mouse. As soon as you get to the tribal stage, all of those controls were changed. It threw me off and I found it really unnecessary. Whatever, though, I got used to it.

I forgot to change my graphics when playing it, too, so it looked fairly crappy. I need to change that next time I'm on, then I'll comment on how it looks.

Ummm the trial is not a demo of the game, just the creature creator - but I thought that was free anyway... ahh well!

Loving this so far, I think this is destined to be a modern classic. As a casual gamer it's rare I ever finish a game nevermind play it through a second time but even as I'm sit here watching TV i'm thinking about choices i'll make next time around.

Thats the only link i have found... There is no demo for spore available to this date.

As a DH Newsposter i would of provided the lnks for the demo... For me it is a shame that there is no demo because spore does look quite addictive and a huge amount of fun.

Yeah - I agree! Now I'll have to find someone who has bought it and give it a test drive

Well, I'm through to the Civ stage. I loved the first two stages, and really didn't care for the tribal stage. It was very easy, and not very deep. They should have spent for time on that stage. Hell, the original AoE was much more deep and equally as easy to get into.

Over all though, the game is very fun. It's great to develop your creatures and see what they can do. Can't wait to get to space and see what thats about.

Completely agree.

Tribal was a bit useless.
Space, on the other hand, is hella fun.

I'm addicted.

Played some more last night. Civ stage was very fun I thought, much better than Tribal. It was great creating all the vehicles and buildings. I just got into the space part, which seems like it's going to be a very good time.

been playing it for the last few days and i hate it. it started off promising, and then went down hill with each progressive phase. and now im on the final space stage which is just the same repetitive crap over and over again.

The last stage is a little disappointing. Millions of stars and all gona be the same repetitiveness. They're likely gonna bring out expansions for stages or something, otherwise I can't see myself playing spore for a very long time.

I'll post a few of my creations later on when I get home. However, my initial impression of the game thus far (I am in the Civilization stage).

Cell Stage - Very fun, reminded me quite a bit of an old 80's arcade game. The sound in this stage I found to be particularly good.

Creature Stage - Reminded me a lot of the first few level's of World of Warcraft. Which, isn't quite a bad thing especially since it's a bit more dumbed down then WoW. Still, very fun stage.

Tribal Stage - Has to be my favorite stage yet, I loved how simplistic this stage of the game was. But, how it also felt very rewarding when you impressed the other tribes.

Civilization Stage - Have barely started this area so I can't really comment much thus far.

Space Stage - N/A

Hope this helps you a bit when deciding if you would like to buy the game or not.

I just started playing it last night. Working on the creative stage right now, and am enjoying more than I should. Which means I played it for way longer than I intended to so that must be a good sign.

I think I might be bored of it already.

There's just so many possibilities for Space, and they didn't really touch on anything. It's all repetition and it finally caught up to me.

This is Will Wright we're talking about here, so I know there will be expansions. But that doesn't make a difference if the first game gets bad.

I find the game very addictive as I played for something like 11 hours yesterday. Just started the space section which, so far, I'm loving. The game is a little easy but like all the Sim games it's not designed for hardcore gamers but casual players. I definitely don't feel like my money has been wasted.
