Re: Fallout 3

I have three questions.

1)Can I use a hotkey to holster the weapon?

2)Is it possible to use a rifle etc as a melee weapon?

3)In the previous games it was easy to remove all ammo from a weapon before you sell it, but I find it impossible here. Any solution?

1) No, you can only hold down R to holster your weapon. Pressing the # again just removes it from your hud and you still bring your fists up.

2) as far as I know, no

3) I'm pretty sure the ammo is already removed by the way it is in the inventory screen. It shows total amount and if u drop it it shows the amount for that gun is 0. You can just drop it in a locker or something if it bugs u that much.

After a short interesting conversation, Burke quickly took a silenced pistol out and hit the sheriff from behind, killing him. I wasn't expecting it and didn't manage to save his life, but only one sec later Burke was lying dead after 2-3 headshots from me (real time). Unfortunately I didn't think of using the VATS or the sheriff might have survived this. I don't cheat or "cheat" though, so I let it go and did not reload. Intense moment.

The second one was when I was trying to find the store that sells weapons in Megaton. I found the Armoury and for some reason I made the connection that that was the place. I opened it and found myself in a room, under fire by a security robot. I was low on bullets, but with the help of some stimpaks and my trusty old baseball bat, I managed to destroy the robot. Lots of good weapons, though in need of repairs, but again, not much ammo. About 2 min later I found the real store lol.

All I have to say is enjoy the hitmen. Soon enough every time you fast travel they will be there. Also, you can't save him. I went to vats as soon as I saw his gun draw and splattered his brain on the wall.

What armory in megaton? All I know of is the suppply store.

Also, I think you will really love the long range shots in cinematics with VAT. It takes a while to be able to make those shots but its similar to the sniping someone in max payne with bullet time on.

Re: Fallout 3

SFOSOK, believe it or not, I have never played Max Payne.
I did have an encounter with a raider from say 15m or so and using VATS I saw the bullet leaving my rifle and heading towards his head. It reminded me of the movie Robin Hood (Kevin the Postman) and the arrows of doom.
About the Armoury, there is one, but it is a bit tricky to find it. You can only find it by being in the higher "level" of the town, going anti clockwise on your left, very steep steps. The building is grey/silverly colour and looks like a small old army barracks. The door is locked, but I got the key from the Sheriff I think, my guess is after the previously mentioned encountered with the 40s dressed man. There are several weapons in that room/building, but in very bad condition, they need repairs.

I am not sure, I believe the ammo does not auto unload from the weapon you are selling. Which is extra annoying because if you have more than one weapon of the same type and you buy ammo, the ammo automaticaly loads in each weapon. Not being able to unload them means wasted ammo.

I am 4.5-5 hours in the game now, still haven't explored more than oh 3% of the map. I am on my way to the super market for the first time. I have about 15 stimpacks, 1 10mm pistol, 1 10mm automatic pistol, 1 assault shotgun, 1 hunting rifle, 1 chinese assault rifle, a couple of knives, my favourite baseball bat, armoured vault 101 suit, and for head protection, although not as much as others, the 40s style hat from that guy in the bar that I had to kill. I love the style of it. I hope they will be enough.
What a fun game!
I am glad the curse of pre orders (for me) has now officialy ended! (my last pre order was Resident Evil 4 for the PC which I hated)

Re: Fallout 3

Eh, the actual colour of the armoury is red-ish and it lukes like it was part of a passenger jet plane. not barracks lol. It is directly infront and almost underneath Moriarty's Saloon.

The keeping R seems to work as a Holster your weapon hotkey. According to the manual the same way you can try to yield to the opponent...not sure I would like to try it, but you can always give it a shot.

I returned from my first expedition to the super-market. I tried a covert operations approach and it went well I believe.

The whole setting is depressing, even more than the first two games.
Love it.

One more question,

Is there a "wait for X hours" button somewhere? I don't have a place to stay and I am waiting for a shop to open and it is very boring not doing anything.

Re: Fallout 3

Another sound fix, this time for Creative users running Vista.

I was having a lot of hitching and static with the sound, especially with music playing from the radio stations via PipBoy and such. The ffdshow tweak fixed the majority of the problems, but I still had the music problem, and then it dawned on me that Creative added a game listing in ALchemy for Oblivion. So, I decided to do the same thing, and create a Fallout 3 listing manually. After a little tweaking, sure enough, it works.

When you create the profile in ALchemy here's the 2 registry listings you will need depending on which Vista you are running (these are for the "Use Registry Path" section):

Vista x64:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout3\Installed Path

Vista x32:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout3\Installed Path

Under the "Settings" section leave the defaults alone except "Duration". Change this from 25 to a lower number, like 7.

It's not giving me any options to do that. But I have an X-Fi Azuntech Prelude.

anyone complete the 'Blood Ties' mission? (see screenshot 1)...I'm trying to find that kid Ian who was kidnapped but the map doesn't give their location...anyone know where 'The Family' is hiding?

anyone found Vault 106?...interesting stuff going on down there

I still havn't decided whether ot not to disarm the bomb or nuke Megaton because I'm still doing some optional quests from there...the Moira Brown 'Wasteland Survival Guide' quest is huge...I've done 3-4 subquests for her already and am going to try and complete them all... **mild spoiler ahead** for her latest experiment she wanted me to contract 600 doses of radiation poisoning...I did it and as a reward I got a Bonus Perk added (see screenshot 2) **end of spoiler**

Re: Fallout 3

after playing this game for a few hours, i see a lot I can compare to half-life 2 - post-apocalypse, destroyed cities, zombies/ghouls in underground passages

but that was all there in the first two games (which i've played very recently) and while so far fallout 3 hasn't added all that much to the setting from 1 & 2, the game is beautiful, and I can actually believe it's part of the same series. The first person aspect is the most different part of the game to me, but the VATS thing really helps bring back the fun of targetting in 1&2.

The only other major difference so far, is that unlike the first two games, the over-all major goal is not explained at the start (Fallout 1: get the water chip, Fallout 2: get the GECK) but I think this adds to the mystique of the game. I'm hooked. And I really shouldn't be (got a few assignments due in a couple of weeks)

Re: Fallout 3

From what I've heard about Fallout 3 so far, this seems to be even better than I ever thought it could be, well done Bethesda.

It's a shame I wont have time to play this until...around 2009, darn gaming backlog, I will buy this though, one day!

"T" eh? I will give it a try, thanks.

Phantommenace, I wish I knew about the little bonus perk there. I went for the 200 poisoning since I wasn't sure she would help me 100% or that I wouldn't earn some negative perk. I wonder if I would go even higher than 600, perhaps near 800 or so, I would get something even more. I will have to try it next playthrough.

When I first heard they were going for a first person view I was very dissapointed. Now, I can say this is perhaps as good as Fallout 2 (my fav), but time will tell.
The only thing I would love for them to include at least as an option is an auto pause of time when someone attacks you.

I actually did a Quicksave and ran through both options (200 radiation and 600 radiation) just to see what would happen...

I've been holding back on nuking Megaton because I thought I wouldn't be able to finish the 'Wasteland Survival Guide' quest but apparently you can still continue with that quest even after nuking the town?

I still havn't decided whether ot not to disarm the bomb or nuke Megaton because I'm still doing some optional quests from there...the Moira Brown 'Wasteland Survival Guide' quest is huge...I've done 3-4 subquests for her already and am going to try and complete them all... **mild spoiler ahead** for her latest experiment she wanted me to contract 600 doses of radiation poisoning...I did it and as a reward I got a Bonus Perk added (see screenshot 2) **end of spoiler**

Blood that ties annoyed the crap out of me as well. If you go north of arefu there is a subway and an abandoned theater (you can't get into the theater). Enter the subway and there should be two friendly ghouls in there (trying to make super jet). If you go in the room where they stay there should be an off room to the right filled with radiation. There is a sewer grate on the floor right under the barrels. The kid is down there. (lots of booby traps though so watch out).

Any of you killed or didn't kill the Overseer of 101? I splashed his brains out and I felt guilty later on.

Basically what it does is any time you cripple a limb you can get extreme radiation and it regenerates back. Nothing negative about it.

Ah, you need to poison yourself to get cured...then I am glad I didn't.

Well you don't need to do anything. You can get cured the regular way. This is just an added bonus if you are crippled and exposed to radiation before you can seek help.

How do you play the game? What's your character like? I am playing as a good character, but not a sucker.

And yes, I have learned to love VATS.

Can't understand why. If you can create a new profile by selecting the "Add" button on the main menu of the ALchemy software, it should be setup the same way as the Creative native version.

If you can create a profile, but can't change the buffer settings you might be able to change them manually. The ALchemy software adds files into the games directory, one of which is called "dsound.ini". If you open that using a text editor such as Wordpad you can manually change the numbers inside to what you need.

Evil to the bone. I don't go around murdering people. But I will take jobs that involve killing innocents. I do like how they added side quest(s) for not-so-nice characters.

I'm kinda the wary adventurer/ scout. Good all around but get my hands dirty a lot. I kill a lot of things and most my time is spent exploring the different branches or areas of side quests instead of those quest or the main story. I haven't found an enemy I couldn't manage. Though there was this saber tooth huge looking beast up northwest on the map. A critical hit sniper shot took only 10% of its life. And I had to run backwards and throw grenades and mines to kill it.

I haven't got to play much though since I had to work through my day off this weekend.

One problem, is trying to find people who can afford to buy all the crap I pick up. I usually end up with 6 hunting rifles then repair them down to 3 to save space.

I also have an Auzentech Prelude 7.1 sound card and I don't even use ALchemy...the sound in Vista is fine for me...I only use ALchemy for older games that were not designed for Vista

just checked my in-game clock to see how long I've been playing--17 hours 22 minutes...what's amazing is that after checking my 'World Map' I've discovered maybe 10-15% of the map...at this rate I'm looking at maybe 200 hours of game time

Re: Fallout 3

I've only played around 8 hours and I'm already starting to get what I call "Gamer's anxiety".

It's a sort of panicky feeling I get that makes me feel that the game is going to be over too soon.

I've even been known to stop playing a great game before it's finished, just so that i know that it will still be there, at least partially un-experienced, if I need some emergency escapism at some stage.

It took me 6 years to finish Deux Ex.

God only knows how long I may well lurk around the Capital District.

Re: Fallout 3

I was surprised to see children in the game, but unlike the second game, you can't kill them. I guess a rating issue. Not that I wanted to, but just saying.

I used FRAPS for a game and the frame rate at 1680x1050 everything max including AF and AA, was from 49-60 all the time, not sure if it didn't go further up due to vsync (don't even remember if I have it on). The thing is, I get this weird feeling when walking or running in one direction like there are....frames missing or something. Like you are walking at steady pace and at the same time you increase your speed for a ms. Weird thing. Anyone else experiencing something like that? I use onboard realtek soundcard.

I can't seem to repair weapons after certain percentage, a bit over 50%, without any explanation (low repair skill or whatever). Is it then that all weapons cannot be made to fire at full power, ever, unless they are brand new when you acquire them?

phantommenace, I got the strength from the ants' crazy scientist thinking it would increase my carrying capacity, but no such thing happened. How much perception did you gain from it?
