Making History Gold
Anyone played this?
It's a 1930s-40s strategy game. Pick a country and do what you want. Similar to Hearts of Iron series, only less cumbersome, better GUI and it doesn't feel like it is a job. Oh and (finally!) it is turn based and not in real time. The game is very good, already played about 20 hours. Three games as Greece. In the first I lost within a year when Italy, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia attacked me while I had disbanded most of my army to save money. In the second I attacked Turkey, unfortunately I didn't know I needed transport capacity to cross the straits, which caused a huge delay and eventual loss when...Italy decided it wanted a piece of me, together with their northern buddies. In the third I did much much better. Managed to strike an alliance with Romania while Italy was attacked by the british. Then attacked Bulgaria and Albania. With about 1/3 of the Bulgarian army occupied with Romania, I managed to capture both of them in a few months. I quickly signed an alliance with Yugoslavia and set my eyes east. The game started in 1933, by 1943 I had control of half the Asia Minor, Bulgaria, Albania, Yugoslavia, the toes of the Italian boot, and an expeditionary force in the steppes near Mongolia. Unfortunately they never saw action there against the chinese because peace was signed for the better of the alliance, long before it reached there. I played a bit more aggressively and after one more year I was at war with France, UK, Italy (or what remained of it), Germany (struggling) and USA. I lost after about 2-3 months. So I started a new game as Germany, 1933 again. I annexed Austria and Czhechoslovakia by 1935. I refrained from attacking any of my neighbours and built my forces and my alliances. By ~1938 I was allied with Nationalist Spain (helped them destroy the republicans), Romania, Italy, Hungary, Slovakia (I liberated them as a protectorate), and had military passage agreements with Yugoslavia, Sweden, Finland, Turkey. At that time France declared war on me. With some very powerful attacks, France was captured in a few months and quickly accepted a peace settlement, leaving them with their colonies only. And good thing too because due to my happy triggered Italian allies, I was now at war with the british commonwealth and the USSR. I left some conscripts guarding France and moved all my forces to romania. Poland was still alive and neutral and I had control of the Baltic, so the only way for the soviets to attack me without declaring war on Poland was through Romania. After about 6 months of intense fighting, I managed to break through. I set Ukraine as an independent state and soon enough they were ready to provide me with some garrison units. Relying on my light tanks and my now Advanced foot infantry, with some support from my other allies (but not Italy or Spain who were very busy with the british), the european part of Russia was conquered swiftly. Before the end of 1940 the USSR was no more. I had troops between the Atlantic and the Pacific, but in between a wasteland. With some very big luck I managed to land 6 divisions all the way to Venezuela. to capture the local oilfields. In the process I lost the other 15 divisions travelling with them and my whole fleet of 3 submarines and 12 fast Battleships. Fast Forward to 1943. In Asia, my new allies, Tibet, are doing ok defending any expedition forces coming from the british from India. My Japanese allies have withdrawn from their conquests on the mainland and most of their conquests in the Pacific. They managed to survive thanks to their focus on building a big navy. The land accross Alaska is under American administration and I am fighting hard to recapture it and at the same time invade and destroy China. Why? Because my Italian allies decided it is a good idea to declare war on Albania and Greece (thus involve USA). Where China is mostly my fault. After the USA entered the war against us and against Japan, I accepted an alliance proposal by the Japanese. I need them to keep the americans occupied, even if I have to fight the chinese to do so. In the long run I need the Japanese fleet if I am to win. In Europe, Greece and Albania and Bulgaria are under my allies control. Most of Poland is mine. The rest are the same. I control most of the Middle Eastern lands. Iran/Persia is neutral, Iraq was my ally but was captured by the british and after I drove the british out I decided they were more useful to me by supplying me with oil day in day out than rely on their ability to do so. I liberated Syria, and captured Saudi Arabia, UAE (or however they are called in the game), South Yemen, Jordan, Palestine, Sinai, Egypt, Suez Canal, all mine with support from my allies. "Libya" is under British control but not for long. I managed to sneak through eh, Chad, a large army of 40 divisions which managed to capture or free most of the north and central Africa and now is heading back north to drive the british out. Another 50 divisions are heading towards Egypt from the north east. Remember that lucky attack on Venezuela? Well, thanks to some clever moves and very little trouble from the enemy allies, I managed to capture Brazil (after Argentina my ally attacked them) and help Argentina capture Paraguay. I also control Colombia and during the last 9 months, all of central america and part of north...ie Mexico. The south America is supplying with cheap armies, but it takes a long time for them to arrive all the way up to mexico. My main thrust that cleared everything up to there was a 45 divisions army. It managed not only that but also attack anc capture Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado. That was very short lived though. An american army of 28 divisions from the West Coast, and another 3 american armies of similar strength from the east, plus a Canadian army of 20 so divisions from the north, kind of made the whole attack short lived. I am now struggling to hold north Mexico and I will probably have to retreat towards my new allies (I liberated them) in central america, Nicaragua probably. The attack there was not a loss even if I lose all of central america. I never expected to keep the land. It was a diversion. It worked because the Americans stopped attacking Japan, stopped bringing forces to China (even withrdrew them) and left only few forces to the north. Now my two new armies arrived, one in Tibet and one near Siberia that should manage to push the chinese back a bit. Way back in Germany, I am working like crazy, deploying armies to send to Asia and a huge submarine fleet to cut off the british. For fighter planes I already build only Jet fighters and have more advance artillery and tanks than the enemy. My allies are quite good attacking and defending, all things considered and I am impressed with the AI controlling them and the AI in general for such a big game. If all goes great, by 1946 Sealion should be under way, but first I have to deal with China, I can't have them suck so many of my resources and troops.

Re: Making History Gold
Things are not going well. I am the only major power in my alliance worth a damn. Japan is losing one island after the other, Italy bravely attacks the smallest countries/colonies they can find, but still can't hold on Sicily for more than a couple of months or just manage to do something against the roaming british fleets in the Med.
Basicaly, I am fighting a 5 front war. One in the Americas, one in the Channel, one in Africa and 2 in Asia. My biggest threat is the USA. I was retreating down the central america, planning on holding firm in Nicaragua. The americans had another plan. They landed armies directly on Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica and now Costa Central (north of Brazil). Marines and all that I guess. They caught my armies while they were in many pieces and disorganised. I have serious doubts if I will be able to hold anything in the Americas. Their ability to transport all that manpower swiftly across the seas without me able to do much about it is scary. SeaLion..yeah, more like sea turtle. It looks like I will have to turtle up and start spending research on developing nukes. Africa is a mess due to the british roaming free in the Med and other seas. In Asia there is a stalemate, but I have to send armies all the way from Berlin. There is a time limit in 1946, though I can continue playing after that. I think I will. I am getting my ass kicked, but I love it.

Re: Making History Gold
For the life of me I can't figure out how to stop enemy ships using the cannals. Suez and Panama are like unimportant to who is controling them at least for the enemy AI.

The game reached the time limit. A victory for my side with a wide margin. I will continue the game till peace is upon all. China is almost defeated, Africa is mines and of my allies, India is about to fall. The british isles will be a tough nut to crack, but not impossible anymore. Still, I will wait till the Chinese are no longer any threat. There is a stalemate between me and USA. No one attacks each other, instead gathering forces near Panama. So far about 70 divisions each. Too much army for such a small area. I am worried about they have started deploying advanced tanks while I am two levels behind.
