??? Your Gaming OS - AWOMO

Since AWOMO still needs an x64 client and we've been waiting on it since the start of the project, I thought i'd run a poll to see who runs 64 bit so we can see if it really is the massive priority we make it out to be. If i miss any poll options off let me know

Re: Your Gaming OS - AWOMO

I voted Vista x64 as that's my PRIMARY gaming OS. However, with HyperOS, I have all of those systems installed, plus Win 7 beta, and I also do some gaming on all of them.

It's something like Steam, right? I'd say that 64bit client is not that necessary as long as Windows supports running 32bit programs. I mean, how could this type of application benefit from being 64bit?

At the very least we need something that will run on a 64 bit system, we're not saying it needs a 64 bit version performance wise just one that will actually run.

lol no problem mate, i wasn't sure if you were on the AWOMO list or not so i didn't go into it. The plugin they've switched to so everything happens in a browser window (Which personally i don't like, would rather close everything if downloading overnight) refuses to run under 64 bit and we've been complaining about 64 bit support since like october last year so it's really taking the piss now

Roy's post or this poll? The reason it's here is because i think AWOMO need to down tools and get this x64 compatible client working or more people are gonna drop from the project.

Re: Your Gaming OS - AWOMO

I have vista 64 since I got this new computer about 5 months ago. Despite the ram issues, I really wish I'd just got regular XP or something because I have had sooo many issues with it that its just been such a pain in the neck. Still got 2 PC's and a laptop on the old 32bit OS but its a pita to change comps.

Been primarily using Vista Ultimate X64 for gaming here without issues on two builds here so far (using both NV and ATI cards). I haven't had a chance to try out the Win 7 Ultimate Beta (64 bit) for games yet but might have a chance this weekend

I was using Windows XP 32bit and Vista 64bit, but once i have added 4GB more ram, i deleted XP.
I believe that if you don't have any problems (on drivers and on important applications) then the x64 Vista is the best choice.
Furthermore the benchmarks, nowadays, are all on Vista x64, which shows the best gaming OS.

I agree with my fellow salonikio, XP was released about 8 years ago. Vista 64 is just so much better and more stable and everything. I believe the main reason people afraid to support or move to Vista 64 is because of the nightmare that XP 64 was.

I'm agreeing with that one too. I still fail to see why Vista's such an infamous entity like thing to most people. It's the best operating system i've ever used, Back in the days of XP I used to find getting frustrated with how slow it was to open all my documents all the time. Never had that problem with Vista since everything i actually use is pre-cached.

If Windows 7 takes off and is actually liked i think i'm gonna curl up in a corner and giggle softly to myself at how retarded people are these days

In my opinion, vista failed in the market because of the high demand in memory. Now you can find really cheap memory sticks so i don't see any reason to stay with the old architecture of XP (not to mention x86!). The transition to x64 OS was painful even from me in 2009 lol. But after some search in google i have found the appropriate drivers for my mobo (an old but good nForce 590 Sli). The whole situation was 2-days search. Now i feel my OS smoother under games than XP x86 (sure it is because of the extra 4GB ram, but it's even faster in boot and simple desktop usage like opening files, as Mousey said).

For Windows 7 i believe that will succeed, as they are Vista with less memory requirement and an even more modern look. The move from Microsoft to release an open beta i think that will help drastically to solve all the performance and driver problem in the retail version. It's just in a first beta and you can find drivers and even play some games smoothlhy!
So if people hesitate to move now to leave xp, in the very near future i believe that they, definitely, are gonna do.

xp x86 for me still.

i like it, it does what i need, and dont even have 2 gigs of ram in total in this system. when ever i upgrade ill go with 4+ gigs of ram, which pretty much will force to an X64 OS. until that day though, i have no intention of changing.

Vista x86 here. When i first was deciding on the OS 2 years ago, vista 64 was in dire need of attention..ie drivers for pretty much every gfx card available.

Re: Your Gaming OS - AWOMO

This also why I stop boring with the testing. As I dont want to have a 32bit os on just to give feedback on the beta.

I really think they should change how it is done, atleast either do a steam like thing like some one esle said. Or make it a game install which sends data back to awomo
