??? Xbox360 online

Hello all!

My next question will probably make people upset at first, so I ask of you to be patiant ti'll you read it entirely...

Well, I'm buying an XBOX 360 Elite in a few days, probably a chipped one.
I haven't found any post about this anywhere so I hope to find resolution here... as allways

The salesman told me that the chipped XBOX is good for both online and offline play, but he told me that in some cases Microsoft can block your XBOX for online play if you have it chipped, or if ou have coppied CDs.
I love online play and I ALLWAYS buy a game that I've tried and liked, I belive in supporting the Game-makers for them to create more games, HONESTLY!
I don't want my XBOX to be banned for online play, but I would like to try games before I buy them.
Therfore my question: If my XBOX will not be banned for beeing chipped, but for Coppied CD's, no problem, I won't play online before I buy them. But if it WILL get banned for beeing chipped, than I preffer to buy it without the chip...

Do you guys know which one is the right one? Ban fo chip or Ban for CD?

Thanks in advance...
I hope I havn't made people too upset, if so, delete this message please.

Re: Xbox360 online

I am not sure on this system but copies are not always illegal nor are modified consoles. In some countries (like Canada) you are allowed to make copies in order to preserve the original you purchased. Hope you find your answer.

Moving this to gaming and lets keep it clean

Re: Xbox360 online

I don't know. I have heard stories where chipped ones were blocked just for being chipped ones. I don't know if they are accurate or not.

I want to say though that what you say that you honestly will buy games sounds like a huge pile of ...lie. If you honestly only care to buy games then there would be no reason to buy a chipped one and you would just try the demos. There are usualy at least one demo for each major release and for the smaller releases (still on DVD) they are usually niche enough that you would know if you liked the game before you buy it. Now, if it was a PC I would see how you could honestly only rarely use illegal copies and buy the games you want, but for the consoles that you have to do the whole "operation", then I find it very difficult to accept.

Either way, I wish you good luck and to not chip your xbox. The person willing to "chip" it for you wants to make money, doesn't care about anything else. Don't forget that.

Re: Xbox360 online

Just get one without a chip. For trying out there is an item called a 'demo'.

Re: Xbox360 online

Dude, whether it's a soft mod or a hard mod, it's bunk for online play. Microsoft conducts XBOX 360 OS authentication the same way they do with Vista and XP - through your connection via Windows Update or LIVE.

Either way, for a "modded" XBOX360, the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer)'s specifications have been changed to manipulate OS implementations and/or for hardware augmentation. That fact alone violates the manufacturer's warranty; and with the addition of emulators and ripped software, that's what "they" call piracy.

If you can afford a "modded" 360 with HDD, you can afford a regular 60GB model and pay for a few games on the side with an extra controller. Or here's an idea - if you want to try games before you buy them, why not RENT them?

If you want online play, you have to go legit.

Re: Xbox360 online

Wow, thanks guys...

First for those who say DEMOs... I didn't know there are demos for 360 :-\ it sure is a good idea.
Second, I DO buy the games, like BF1942, Starcraft+Broodwar, Frontlines and many others! If I like the game, I buy it, and with PC games, demos are easy unless they don't put out one, like with Ghost Reacon Advanced Warfighter, so you need to DL it the "wrong" way, and try it. I really don't belive in piracy, I'm sort of in this business myself so... Honestly.

Besides, for you knowledge: XBOX360 is not imported to Israel by Microsoft but by another small party, so, the manufacturer doesn't take responsability for the console anyway :-\ A shame, that every International Garentee is not applicable in Israel

Eventually, thanks for he advice! I really appriciate it!
