Game suggestions for my mini.

Got myself a Compaq Mini. 10" screen (1024x576), Intel Atom 1.6 GHz, 1 GB Ram, Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family.

What kind of decently modern games would be playable on it? I'll gladly take suggestions. I have a 7 hour bus trip tomorrow and I need something to do!

Re: Game suggestions for my mini.

Oh my, too bad. Anyway here are some games that should work at acceptable speed/frame rate/etc, from my experience with my netbook with same hardware.

Civilization III and older
Pirates!
Audiosurf
FPS games from 2001 and earlier. Later than that might work or might not, depending on the game.
Splinter Cell (the first one), at low frame rate but it doesn't affect the game due to its type.
Atari ST emulators like STEEM.

For a bus trip that you won't be able to have a proper mouse+external monitor set up and for movement from the bus, you better just avoid anything with small fonts or spirtes (shoot em ups etc)
If you have an older version of Civilization (3 and earlier) it will be fine. Older Adventure games will be fine too. Puzzle games like Plants vs Zombies and other games by PopCap will work fine.

More fast paced games that can work but you might have a problem with a touchpad and bus,
Sacred Gold
Half Life (not the Source variety)
Railroad Tycoon 2
Sub Command
Blitzkrieg 2 (my guess 1 should work too, although it is build with a different engine, but I don't have it to be sure)
IIRC, SWAT 3.
Basicaly any game that was top of the line circa 2002, it is a hit or miss if it will run and how it will run.
Anything demanding after 2002, chances are you will have some problems or even not being able to run it.
2001 and earlier games should run from acceptable to great.

EDIT: Are you sure the resolution is x576? That might pose problems with most of the games I mentioned. If it is true then you might need to look further down the history lane for games that will run great on the system. If I were you I would stick with STEEM and games like Colonial Conquest or one of the many RPGs on that system.

Re: Game suggestions for my mini.

Yes, I'm sure about the resolution. 576 is maximum and I know that will cause problems with many newer games. I'm not looking for anything advanced anyway, just something more than the ordinary board games.

Since the civ games are among my favourites I might try Civ III and some similar games. Didn't have time to fix any for my bustrip though so I have to spend my time with something else instead.

Re: Game suggestions for my mini.

I noticed your avatar, are you an Amiga guy? The amiga emulators might be a bit more demanding, but might still be able to run some and games on it. Just don't try to run heavy applications on workbench.

Re: Game suggestions for my mini.

That's already fixed. Got the emulator running and it works quite well but most of those games are old, I'd like a litle bit newer games. But I've got a general idea now on what to go for.
