WoW Cataclysm - are you excited or annoyed?

Ok, hopefully some of our WOW fanatics can clue me up on this.

I hear the new Cataclysm is splitting opinion in being "too radical a change".

Can anyone explain it to me in laymans terms?

I was reading into this a few nights ago, Raiders across the world are going to be crying themselves to sleep because this new expansion doesn't focus soley on them and not for new players for once.

The location is supposedly the Maelstrom which is a section in the middle of the map which is represented as a vortex, it's supposed to keep the islands seperate.
Apparently all the major cities will be destroyed by... some kind of random group nobody's heard of and the whole world will be completely reinvented.

Sounds really good to me i'm sick of starting new characters and being able to rattle off all the quests in alphabetical order.

That said, if something is boring - why they hell still keep playing it in the first place?

I don't have the game, so, is this an expansion that each will have to download and play? Like what happens with Eve-online?
So, after the xpack is out, new players will still be in the old world, but people who buy it will move to the new through a mission? (like in Guild Wars).

This doesn't focus solely on the maelstrom, I bought the Blizzon live stream. A lot of the information is @ MMO-Champion - World of Warcraft Guides and Raid Strategies

I am personally excited they are returning us to Azeroth, there are some things that annoy me, but then again some things annoy me now.

It doesn't get boring because of the fact that you have put so much time into side projects, or items you want to get.

I normally notice people that get bored easy, are generally boring people. those that have no imagination. Etc. I have huge problems with some of the social aspects (fight instigating, shit talking etc) but I can get that irl too. But I can't punch idiots either way. though I highly feel if they didn't have a monitor to hide behind.... Well they wouldn't say it in the first place, thank you internet, for giving everyone starcraft 2 size balls.)

Annoyed. The game isn't even Warcraft anymore. It's just "appeal to whatever playing group that gets us the most money, even if it means diverting from good, thought-out decisions" now. As soon as I heard Troll druids were possible, I was amused and am glad I cancelled my account some time ago.

Basically, they're giving the original "classic" game a much needed overhaul. About this I am delighted, it was really starting to feel its age and low level levelling was becoming a bore.

They're also increasing the level cap to 85 and introducing plenty of new end game with it. About this I was extremely annoyed - the majority of players aren't finished with WotLK yet. However, it looks like the release date is a long way off, and that the new 5 levels, rather than being more of the same, will be advanced through end game content. So, to conclude, I'm excited

New spells and new things will be cool.
But classic areas will change is kinda sad, and that pvp when its beginning to be balanced again they release another expansion and its on again.

I have been an off and on WoW player for years, but I am kind of losing interest. I'm not a raider as my work schedule doesn't allow it. I don't have the time to put the equipment together to hit heroics. So, after a while I'm left with nothing other then dailies and alts. Cataclysm looks interesting, but Bioware has the Old Republic coming out probably around the same time. Since, I want to sink my teeth into another KOTOR style game Old Republic definitely has my attention.

They are totally turning away from the original Lore.. This was the case when drainai and blood elves were introduced.. then that Alliance and Horde have gotten the same classes to choose.. now goblins and those wolves are introduced. And the Lore is being twisted and rewritten to get them in to story..

I think it's a damn shame and think Warcraft has been commercialized.. They should have sticked to the original story..

I am a little annoyed about the lore since that was really the only thing that kept the people in the game that ask "Why?" a lot at bay. Now its just a raping of lore. It's not even about the story any more which really got me. I've been playing WoW for over 4 years since the beta testing of the original Azeroth and I think its about time for an overhaul.

To give Z a good summary about the new content its basically like a gigantic disaster happens that wipes out part of the azeroth as we WoW vets know it. Kind of nice considering that all of the 80's and others that I have now I have had to stare at the same scenary for so long that I can do almost the first 10 levels of night elf questing blindfolded. In any case the whole story line behind the new content is while we were all having fun and skipping through fairy land with out a care in the world there has been something mounting in the background. Its basically like something that would happen irl with a natural disaster....sort of. And then the whole place gets blown up and, BAM there's your new zone. From what I've heard there will be zones in which really high level characters as well and new people to the game will be questing on top of one another in different parts. I guess that was some kind of way for Blizz to keep the little ones from being lonely? I'm not sure. What I'm not really sure of is one thing. How on earth do we expect low levels and 85's to play in the same zone on a PvP server? Riddle me this BatMan.

One nice thing that will come from this is I will finally get to take all of my flying mounts to Azeroth according to what I've heard.

Other than that I will probably keep on playing the game. I hardly ever interface with others outside my guild so it isn't a real big issue with all of the idiots that play on my server. ( which by the way is about half seeing that Fizzcrank is a terrible, terrible realm to play on)

As for all of their annoying changes go as long as they allow me to stay in tree form on my druid while healing I will be happy. I'm used to changes (or lack there of) since I have been in MMO's so long its not even funny. Before WoW I was in EverQuest up until the 17th expack I think. Which is a little after WoW dropped (yes I might have played both at the same time don't judge me)

they are doing everything they can in their power to keep people playing WoW.... major changes to a game typically can make a better killing in terms of sucking people in..

Frankly they are only bumping up the longevity of the game a few years at best.... with the launch of other alternatives that are showing good signs of tearing away players from wow..... Aion is growing considerably.
