True. I think the challenge is finding the right woman so you change for the better and not for the worse.

Glad to hear that your doing well. I haven't been a rabid gamer for a number of years, mostly just in the "meantime" kinda thing...

My older son has found a goldmine in a girl, then. She is now my daughter-in-law and plays games every night if possible. And, she plays them ALL. On her way home from work yesterday she picked up hers and my son's copies of Mass Effect 2.
And, Modern Warfare...BIGTIME fan!So, yes, I do know some girls who game.

Breaks the first time you hit it into a makiwara. Damned things just aren't made resilient enough.
I've pretty much dropped out of gaming, too. Still buy them, though, in the hope of one day having the time. I've played some hidden object adventures lately, and some World of Zoo since my daughter loves seeing the animals. |

Re: I think I've quit Gaming
Sorry for the long post. I was planning to do a quick small post at first but it grew of its own.
You'll make more friends by going out than by staying home playing games. You can make the choice of drinking a lot, a little or not at all. Too much of anything is never good. It's best not to drink too much. That's the conclusion I've come to by experience. You just wasted your night if you emptied your wallet but can't remember the details of what happened. Personally, I haven't stopped gaming but I've slowed down. I'm more of a casual gamer than an hardcore one than before. I like RPG, FPS and racing games but I only feel like playing games once every few weeks/months. I won't game at all for weeks/months at a time and then I'll suddenly feel like playing and I'll play way too much everyday for a few days in a row until I get tired of it. There's just too much to do in life to make gaming the only thing you do in your free time. Maybe around 10 to 15 years ago, I was into reading science fiction novels. At the time, I was at school, I had a lot of free time and they had a lot of sci-fi books at the school library. I probably read around 30 to 50 different novels in a few years at the time. There was no high tech consoles and pcs. I had to do something of my free time. After that period, I stopped novels. I just don't feel like it anymore. Plus I don't think the science fiction genre is popular anymore. Lots of the books I was reading at the time were pretty old. For a time (years ago), I was into programming a lot. I would spend all my free time in the evening coding plugins for the kX drivers or something else. I was never tired of doing it. After some time, I got tired of it and I moved on. Two years ago, I started fencing epee. I wanted to try something different. It's a fun sport and you get to meet people. You never know who you might meet. It could be someone who has a friend who's looking for employees in your field of work. I took classes for a year and now I'm taking a break. I liked it so much that I bought all the required gear. I'll probably continue fencing in the future. Last year, I decided to learn a new programming language called Ruby. I was dedicated every evenings for a few weeks and then I just forgot about it and moved on to other activities. Last year, I started road cycling. I bought my first road bike and some tight road cycling clothing to go with it. I rode 200 km last summer but I'll do better this summer. Many years ago, I told myself it would be nice to learn japanese as a third language. There's no particular reason, it's just that I find the language and the country interesting. I bought a bunch of japanese learning books and english/japanese dictionaries. My interest waned and it's now a project for later. When my interest picks up again, I'll work on it. If I ever move to a city where they give classes on the language, I'll go. It's always easier to learn in a class environment than by yourself. You can take dancing lessons, food making lessons, there's a lot of constructive stuff you can do in your free time. When you start doing a lot of varied activities, you'll have less time for gaming. If you commit yourself to something specific (like those people going to the olympics) you probably won't have much time for anything else. You just need to experiment and find what you like to do in life. After looking at pictures posted by Falstaff, I think that I might pick-up photographing one day. Knowing me, I'll research the subject fully before buying my first camera, I'll buy a really good one, I'll take a few pictures and I'll move on to something until I find the will to come back to it again. I like challenges. I like to try out different stuff that require a lot of work. That means that I can't do everything because there's only so much free time in a day. I have to make choices. If I really wanted to learn japanese, I could grow my vocabulary dramatically in a few weeks. I'm just too lazy/tired after a long day at work/university and choosing to do something that does not require hard work like watching tv is the easier choice. Gaming is now just another activity among others where is was almost the only thing to do at some time in the past. Once in a while, I find something that interests me and I work on it a lot. It's like it's all or nothing. I don't know the in-between but I'm learning. |

Re: I think I've quit Gaming
(not talking about anyone in specific)
I find it fascinating that so many people feel the need to find excuses to admit they like to play games, even occasionally. It's like they are ashamed to admit that they just like to enjoy themselves, which happens when they play games. Also that when they don't play as often, or at all, as they would really like and not willing to admit, they try to make it sound that they are too mature for it anymore or that they have now other priorities. To all of that I call bullshit. It's unfortunate that so many people feel the need to not allow themselves to do all the things they want, even when they are things as innocent as gaming. I guess 2000 years of propaganda can do that, but still. Fascinating.
