PC Gaming Standards

Hi everyone, I'm a long time PC gamer and recently started coding a website in my spare time http://www.pcgamingstandards.com which I hope everyone can benefit from.

The basic idea is to pool all the known problems with modern games (lack of proper widescreen support, forced Vsync, lack of AA and AF options etc) into one database where they're documented and easy to find, most importantly if known fixes are available these are linked directly to make correcting your problems as easy as possible.

I'd just like to stress that this is a personal project I'm working on in my spare time, it's not commercial in any way, it's not there to make money from traffic, there's no adverts, no sponsors, no associates. Currently it's hosted on my PC at home so maybe a little slow when traffic picks up, don't worry dedicated hosting is coming soon.

The website is still in very early stages, there maybe some bugs, I'd really appreciate your feedback both on any problems you find but on the features themselves, if you think something can be improved or something vital is missing then please post, PM me or use the contact form on the site.

Also because it's still new there isn't many games added to the database, this is a long job and requires access to the games to confirm if they pass/fail all the catagories, so I cannot do all the work myself, to help I have added a add game button at the bottom of the website which will allow you to submit a game for review which will be checked to the best of my ability and added.

I hope you all find this helpful, it's my honest attempt at giving something back to the PC gaming community. All your feedback is welcome both good and bad, it all helps me improve the site.

This is a really good idea, I'll start hunting out a few games myself which aren't on the DB and see what i can do for you.

excellent..

could you also pool in specific information to that of if the games are single player, multiple, co-op and the number of player in co-op mode as well as what kind of co-op mode is available. (such as some games have co-op deathmatch/capture the flag but NOT co-op adventure or main game style play)

Just some quick updates from the last week or so.

Forums have been styled and registration fixed
News items on the front page now link directly to the right news item
The news page itself has had an overhaul and has an index made for easier browsing
New blog post, if you have a spare minute a comment wouldn't go astray
Loads of minor tweaks, some differences between FF and IE solved
Some games added, some tweaked for corrections and updates

The more important news is that the site even though it's very young is drawing some attention from other members of the gaming community, as well as increased traffic in general I've also featured on NVnews and Rage3d news sections.

I've also had feedback directly from a game developer which I didn't think would happen for at least 6 months or so, this proves the site can be a force for good, I've also had EVGA follow my twitter account which is interesting.

I really feel like the ball is really starting to get rolling, thank again everyone who has given feedback, added games, sent in corrections and suggestions for the site

A very quick update, the site had its first recorded live visit on August the 4th which means it's now 2 months old today, I've been keeping an eye on my stats and this morning it's broken the 10,000 views milestone I set for myself. Thanks for everyone who has taken the time to visit and give me feedback and suggestions for the website, I read them all and have a big update in the works to bring you some of the most requested features.

Big thanks to anyone who took time out of their day to research a game and submit the details, remember to add your name in the submit form to be added to the contributors list on the about page, thank you!

a STANDARD options menu outside of the game would be super nice. I love games that you can configure without opening the game first...
resolution, frequency, fullscreen/widescreen/windows, advanced options, controls, sound, game in general .... all available outside of the game.

would be perfect.

that and the same compression ratio Far Cry 2 used ... the game was amazing in graphics and gameplay but only 3gb ... whereas other inferior games are 8-9gb ... ridiculous

Good Idea.

But I would make sure you get permission from some of the sites topost direct links to their articles. Especially TweakGuides. I think they have a disclaimer and the main guy (though very helpful) seems kind of a D Bag.

Good to know you're still at it, that's a pretty useful site. I've made the switch to console gaming though since you were last here but I still agree that's a gem of a site.

I fixed the add button now, at the bottom of the front page you can submit games to me and I will review and add them. I've also added a bunch more games.
