A quick look through the manual...it's nice to see a manual that is not 4 pages long. It's not a book at ~43 pages long, but it's good enough.
~1.5 days left.

Re: Dragon Age...
had a go last night at 1am as I couldnt sleep. sat until 2.30 and thought it was great - the dialogue and scripting is first class. I think this is going to be a classic guys.

Re: Dragon Age...
After an hour or so playing the game.
I don't remember when it was the last time I played such a well made game (of the action-RPG-adventure types). Probably Mass Effect. The game is...an experience. Make sure if you have DLCs, that you first install them and then patch the game or else the game doesn't let you install them because you do not have version 1.0 Which is silly.

If you don't then, quit the game. Start the configuration utility. Click on Repair, clear cache. Save and quit Start the game. It should work now. that's what I did and they are all installed. OH, in case I wasn't clear enough earlier. If you like RPGs, BUY this game.

Re: Dragon Age...
The game is great. The music is incredible, the story is excellent, but the graphics tend to be sub par. Don't get me wrong, it looks like they spent a lot of time on the character models, especially the faces, but the environment looks pretty bad, even with the highest settings.

Re: Dragon Age...
this games' emphasis is clearly on the story, graphics are 2nd place..
It doesn't bother me at all, and I think the fighting looks superb as well..

Re: Dragon Age...
Must have logged over 15 hours on this game during the weekend. I didn't expect to get hooked on an adventure game right now but the quality of this one just sucker-punched me and brought me down on my knees. I really enjoy the over the head party view rather than the Oblivion/Fallout camera, even if the camera controls is one of the few areas that could use some tweaking.
Speaking of tweaking one has to enable Anisotropic Filtering from within the config file "DragonAge.ini" located in "%UserProfile%\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\Settings". Find the item "AnisotropicFilteringLevel=" and change the 0 to 4 or higher. While most textures are of a fairly low resolution in this game it still looks a lot better with at least some level of AF. If enabling VSync in the video options it's also best to see to that "UseTripleBuffering" is set to 1 for better performance. I prefer their focus on graphis in this game over for instance Oblivion, because it still looks very good in most situations and while Oblivion hads lots of impressive world details, the characters were still often looking generic with ugly clone faces. In a game filled with great dialog the impressive face graphics add to the immersion factor. Hopefully for their next game the body structure and clothes/armor can get an upgrade. For the landscape and buildings a texture pack would suffice. If this game is moddable we might see something like that down the road from fans. There's a lot of dialog so pure dungeon-crawlers might want to wait for something else. |

It is different from Fallout , this one is more "fantasy" RPG while Fallout are more of FPS.

Re: Dragon Age...
I'm so busy with work/home stuff right now, that I've been really trying to hold off buying this game ... but after reading what all you guys had to say about it, that's going to be tough! (Reviews are one thing, but reading people's first-hand experiences with the game means more.)
Adventure/RPGs are my single favourite genre, and, on the whole I prefer fantasy-based to sci-fi-based. (In games, at least.) One other cool thing is that Bioware's 1st patch included ATI Eyefinity display support. (Aside from racing games, this is the type of game that I want to play on an ultra-wide screen display. It's so much more immersive!)

Re: Dragon Age...
I never really liked that much the graphics of Oblivion, even when it was released. I remember liking the first moments in the catacombs, although I felt the faces were still a bit weird, and when I first left them and saw the outside world I felt a huge disappointment with how bad everything not near to you looked. Exactly the same thing with Fallout 3, though I can tolerate F3 more due to the setting. The more I played Oblivion the more I disliked the game, with graphics one of the main reasons. Probably one of the reasons why I never managed to play more than 15 hours or so in one installation. The other main one was that I find the game very boring.
Dragon Origins so far is just beautiful to look at, but you know what they say about beauty.

Re: Dragon Age...
@ BlueMak really, dude I couldn't disagree with you more: the graphics in Oblivion were disappointing !!
Fine they are nothing in comparison to say Assassins Creed but the scenery was quite good, Assasins Creed was more breathtaking...... ........damn I see what you mean

Re: Dragon Age...
Man, I'm loving this game. If you find it too easy for whatever the reason up the difficulty level and try it without a heal spec caster in your party.
My mob pulling skills and aggro management from my EQ days helped a lot. Tell your party to hold and pull a select one or number to a remote area and off them. If you really want a laugh run into the middle of a room of mages, run out and slam the door. They may very well nuke each other down. My mage enjoyed Golem form a lot in the fade for melee encounters. For the impatient, if any dialogue starts to bore you or you don't want to sit through a repeat just hit esc. It will forward you. These sorts are right up my alley; the BG Series, and Planescape Torment. More recently, The Witcher, and of course Oblivion.
