Mate, I think that people who are hardcore fans are probably going to have 3 computer's so they'd use a few of em for computer hosted but it ain't going to be a fantastic connection.
Honestly I think Infinity is going to upgrade this fact later on because their probably giving them a test.
The First Modern Warfare was a phenomenal success on the online gaming so they're going to see how many players move from 1 to 2 and then probably upgrade it.

What pisses me most off, is the fact that 402 (robert bowling) in September was asked if anything was changed with the MP part in the PC version, he replied with no.... and a couple of days later they decide to screw pc users over, by removing dedicated servers.

IW want to transfer PC gaming into console-like where you are charged for DLCs , no mods or custom contents , high ping ,....

I don't care for the game anyway , but it is just too stupid for them to do that for PC gaming community , just let them suffer with the low game sales and bring them down to their knees.

I have feeling a lot of people has canceled their pre order or have never ordered it. On steam top seller list, it has been at the bottom all the time, getting owned by titles like Borderlands (brilliant game), L4D2, Dragon Age, Torchlight, Cod4!!, Killing Floor and Team Fortress 2.

If PC users are looking for a great "nextgen" multiplayer game, which has dedicated server support, hold out for BF: Bad Company 2 which looks amazing and Dice has always been good to support the PC MP community.

If you really want to play MW2 single player, buy it second hand or wait for it to drop. The single player campaign is only around 6 hours, not worth the steep price Activision ask for the game.

you know i was pretty disappointed at the move by IW, I thought maybe they have some legitmacy. Just maybe....

then I saw this and was disgusted



they should just admit that they do not want to spend the resources in creating a different port for the PC and this time around must release one for the fans which is based off the xbox. Better than blatantly lying.

Their thinking is they are promoting IWNET as a non-cheatable platform, similiar to vavle's anti-cheat. Which does work however it takes precious time to detect the cheats. And as there is no central admin and kick vote, then I think it's counter-productive, they ould have had it both ways, so players could choose. Seems like its a Ploy to make more money then it is to cater to their hardcore customers, but it's not going to stop their sales. in the slightest.

I can't understand one thing. With VAC, since there are no dedicated servers or any servers, but the whole online is done through p2p, how is VAC going to 1)detect the cheater, 2)ban the cheater, 3)update itself?
In theory it would scan some files to make sure they are identical to the clean ones?

my friend who tries to attack us for being PS3 fanboys (because we love mgs) is being a childish geek who pretty much likes anything being favored for the 360. my argument is its just a bs business practice of spinning it off. they should of been clear cut "guys we cannot make a new netcode for the PC version and the game will be ported off the 360 as we must make the product affordable and must meet the timeline we are given." People will cry "you are activision, you have so much moneyssss!". Let them cry then, because that is business. Better to be honest IMO, then spinoff the fact your product sucks (not that MW2 sucks, it's a great console game, the PC port could be much MORE of a product)

IWNet/Matchmaking
1) Screaming 12 year olds with nobody to boot out "that damned glitcher"
2) Schizophrenic Pings
3) Whatever content IW Decides is going on the network
4) Meet players once, never again without adding to friends and organising matches
5) Whatever location has the best ping to IWNet, Not the player.
6) You don't have the content IWNet suddenly decided that you should fork out $50 for to keep playing? Off the network you go

The reason why games such as Half Life 2 Deathmatch, Counter Strike 1.6 + Source, Team Fortress 2, Garry's Mod, Ect. Ect. are still going is because of Third Party content being made all the time and Dedicated servers where you can go when you KNOW That the admins there are cool and won't go on power trips when you kill them. Where you KNOW That the screaming 12 year olds will be slapped and globally muted, Where you KNOW who's hosting and where.

Anybody noticed that these are all valve games that are still going strong so many years after release?

oh i have some great news about MW2 and activision servers:

I lagged out of 4 games in a row. The first one i was 4-0, I called in a UAV then got slapped around then d/c. Again next game I had 3-1, slapped around lagged out. Another game I got 4-1, knifed someone and then picked up a crate and got the predator missle. I am running for cover to start using it I get slapped around and get kicked. Next game I lag out in the LOBBY. Not once did PSN boot me, it always said server timed out and link lost to activision servers or something.

Then I got into 2 games, got 3-18 and a speed achievement, and then i forget my last score it was like almost as bad and got another speed achievement. Amazing net code. I am on the PS3 version and you can see my connection speed in my sig

As for the dedicated servers i have heard that it's possible since there are lines of code within the .exe file that give that possibility, but are disabled. If this is true then enabling dedicated servers is illegal, right? (i don't remember the source, which wasn't very reliable)

I think IW will have a hard time tracking down all the "illegal" offenders though... over 200,000 signatures on the "bring dedicated servers back" will bring alot of tweakers
