Re: Borderlands

I remember reading some very classy comic books when I was a teenager. Gorgeous art in each panel. This is what this game feels like, only that I can now not just fantasize about it, but walk my virtual self in them. The visuals of this game are out of this world

Re: Borderlands

I guess so. The difference is where in the cartoon you can see in the background some nice "paintings", here you can actually walk there and see them from close.
Very refreshing game.

Re: Borderlands

A small update.
The FOV does change even in single player, when using vehicles.

Re: Borderlands

I want to clear something up for any potential buyers.
While the shooting aspect is like a FPS, the way the game plays is not. The developers and publishers call the game a RPS for Role Playing Shooter, but it is not, in my opinion, accurate.
What it is, is a dungeon crawler shooter, very similar in mechanics to Diablo 2. Lots of dropped loot, various missions of the kill everything in sight variety, and spawning of enemies on the way and back from there.
BUT, it is done in a very good way and because of the high quality of the actual shooting/action, it doesn't get boring or feels pointless as other similar games do.

Re: Borderlands

Have yet to play it but "dungeon crawler shooter" seems spot on by the impression I've gotten. Not one I'm going for as a singleplayer game even if the environment is tempting to try out, but with a friend or two it should be a blast. Is there any LAN support or is the multiplayer all about internet?

Re: Borderlands

There is a problem with the game. For the weapons etc it only shows up to 4 attributes because the text box is not big enough/text is too big!!!
http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com...ad.php?t=80932

I will try the solution soon, but here it is.
Quote:
Go to your Borderlands install directory.
Nagivate to %BORDERLANDS%\WillowGame\Localization\INT\
Find the gd_globals.INT file. MAKE A BACKUP.
Open the gd_globals.INT file.

Replace
Code:
AttributePresentationTranslation="$NUMBER$ $CONSTRAINT$ $DESCRIPTION$"
with
Code:
AttributePresentationTranslation=<font size="10">$NUMBER$ $CONSTRAINT$ $DESCRIPTION$</font>
You can also adjust the size from 10 to 8, or 12, whatever you wish. Save, and enjoy! Thanks to all those involved in hunting it down.
Taken from steam forums from the poster psykoteky

I just tried it with font size 8. It seems to work. ( I don't have any 5+ item right now)

Re: Borderlands

Anyone still playing this game? I was considering giving it a shot. I see some new DLC is out this week, I assume there may be some sales of the original along with it.

Anyway, anyone have an update impressions given the release of prior DLC and maturing of the community?

Re: Borderlands

I am pissed off. I got the game from Gamersgate but for whatever reason I have yet to see a single DLC from them, or even the latest patch. So, no.
If you like shooting stuff and not thinking much, then you will enjoy this game for at least 20 hours. It's very good at it. If you want to play online then I guess you will be able to play it for many more hours without losing a bit of interest on it.

What I was trying to say was, don't buy this game from Gamersgate.

Re: Borderlands

I was playing it. Beat it just before Bioshock 2 came out. My advice, though, stay away from the Mad Moxxi DLC. So not worth it. Even if you have friends to play it with it's still not worth it. The new DLC should be out later today (the 25th) for the PC, so I'll be picking that up asap, but I won't get to play it until I finish off Bioshock 2, which should be soon.

Is it worth buying? Yes. I had a whole lot of fun with it, and I enjoyed the PC version even more as I was able to tweak to my liking (such as turning off gun sway while moving). Plus the game is even more fun when played with friends.

I would, however, take a look around at your local retailers instead of buying it off Steam. They still sell it for $49.99, and I know a lot of retailers have been dropping the price on it (I got mine from Best Buy for $29.99). By the time I added the DLC I was paying what Steam wanted just for the game.

PS: on a side note, HERE is a page to a simple enabling tool that will allow you to enable/disable, and tweak certain settings. The big things for me were enabling V-Sync (which solved 1/2 my framerate issues), turning of the weapon bob (although rather than turning it off, which also disables footstep sounds, I set it to 0), as well as changing the font size for ingame listings (such as shrinking down the text of item descriptions so that you can now read the whole thing... with the original size the 4th line was always obscured).

It's cell shaded. Takes a bit to get used to, but once you start seeing the world you play in, and the crazy assed characters you come up against, it all fits in the end.

Speaking of the graphics, you can turn off the black outlines using that tool I mentioned in a previous post, or THIS one which is still actively being worked on. The latter tool also allows you to tweak/turn on anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, and force resolutions.

Re: Borderlands

Sorry for the thread necro but I finally picked up this game and it is knocking my socks off! This is the first, first person shooter that I have enjoyed in at least the last 10 years.

Everything about the game had me glued to my seat until 1am this morning and I'm paying for it now.

They even have a high DPS ranged nuker! SQWEEEE!

I'm not sure what I was doing by waiting so long to get this game but I'm glad I did. If single player is this much fun I can't wait to get going with a multi-player game with a friend who also picked it up.

I played it a little bit with a friend but they were like lvl23 and I was like lvl 1 so I sucked ass. It wasn't fun but I could see the potential in starting a new game with buddies.

I'ma wait till they do a bundle pack on steam with all the dlc's with half off the original price (probably for christmas).

If your goin to co-op, make sure everyone starts with new players, or its not too fun

Re: Borderlands

My friend and I just finished Sledges Safe House and man, was it insane! I read that when you have 2 or more in your party the difficulty goes up but this was way beyond what I expected.

It is the most challenge/fun I have had in a loooooooooong time but I agree with SFOSOK. If you're playing with friends it is best to be the same level, otherwise you are either killing everything in sight if you are a higher level or they are cowering behind cover trying not to get one shot'ed.

Borderlands is easily in my top 5 games of all time.
