Death Track: Resurrection
Gamersgate has it on sale. I tried the demo last night and found a few things I didn't like. The main one was that there is something weird going on with the gamma setting. No matter what I do, the roads always appear pitch black. Almost like they are sucking in them the colours from the rest of the game and from the room. I could still not stop playing the demo. I played like 10 races, and I failed big time in all.
But since it was on sale and I had some credit in GG, I decided to buy it. It's not like there is anything special about the game, I don't know why but I find it addictive! It's an arcade racer similar to the 100 more that exist. Set in the end of the century, where for some reason the whole planet, or at least the cities where the races take place, are in ruins or under attack, for example from meteorites... You can buy your car and upgrade the usual things like engine etc, and also choose weapons for the three slots in your car. Not a big selection in that. There are 10 circuits. So far they appear to be of the long variety. About 2:30+ to finish a single lap. They feel good length for this type of game. The roads are mostly wide enough to not have the usual bump into the sides that exists in many similar games. To fully unlock the game you have to play the "campaign", which is story based with fmv and cgi sequences. You can also play scenario mode (where you have to do certain things in the track), championships and single races in 4 different modes. The default "modern", the "classic" where if your or enemy's car is destroyed it doesn't respawn, and Rally, where there are no weapons. There is also a 4th one where you customize the rules. I am going to plug in the 360 controller to check it out, with the keyboard the controls are not horrible, but could be better... Other features worth mentioning, each circuit has what feels like several shortcuts, buildings that if you destroy you get bonuses (points, temp boost, etc), and bonus items on the track that replenish your ammo etc. I read a few reviews of it from well known sites and I couldn't believe how wrong they were about a couple of things. Anyway, this isn't a review, I just wanted you to know about this game if you are looking for arcade racing games as I (almost constantly) am. I got the demo from gamershell.
