I choose PS3 like I said : better exclusives , full HD (include 7.1 audio) , Blu Ray drive , free online service , No need for multiple discs in games , less failure rate than X360.

though today is hard time for PS3 but its the best of them all and it got better exclusive titles and u might know about its raw power .....i guess u go with PS3.....other wise PC rocks.

I agree that the PS3 has a few technical benefits, but for a kid of 10, I think the Wii would offer much better value - more of the games are aimed at the younger audience, and are more "fun" oriented than the many of the xbox/ps3 "omfggraphiczz" games, but that's just my opinion

I know if I were 10, I would choose Xbox 360 or PS3, not Wii. When I was about that age I had an Atari ST, which was a great home coputer but in terms of graphics it just wasn't near the Amiga 500. Yes, I would support my ST as much as any other kid, but the fact was I knew I would rather have the visual effects of the Amiga. We all did.

For me the Wii is a big pile of poo. The fact I have played more hours PSP than Wii, means a lot to me.

Graphics aren't everything. Zelda, and Metroid both kick anything Sony or Xbox have. Halo doesnt even come close to re-playability for me.

Well, considering that Colonial Conquest is still my favourite game (this one Colonial Conquest - Atari ST Screenshots - MobyGames )
you don't have to tell me that graphics aren't everything. I was playing Phantasie and Roadwar 2000 when Nintendo kids were jumping on mushrooms.

I don't care about Halo, never did. All I care is what I do and that's what I said. From the 3 consoles, the Wii is for me the worst for the one thing that matters, games. Too few games, too few good games, too few games that I want to play for more than 5 min at a time.

I don't know of any 10yo kid (at least boy) who will look at gameplay from a Wii and from a PS3/Xbox 360 and will most of the time choose the Wii.
If he does, I believe he is probably lying to you.
If you are set on buying him/her a Nintendo console, you might as well get a DS which is a fabulous system with great games.

The only exclusives I'm aware of are really the original games for the genre.
Metal Gear, GOW III, Killzone, Resistance.

Nintendo also has exclusives. Sure the PS3 uses better engines etc. But for a 10 year old kid, Mario Zelda and Metroid are all awesome games with a lot less sophisticaed violence for a 10 year old.

At the risk of sounding old, BACK IN MY day, I started off with an intellivision. So. A wii would be hella fun to a kid.

I have all 3 systems, Ps3 would be my 2nd choice, mainly cuz I get tired of RRODs. And if the child isnt "happy" with whatever you choose to give him, he's spoiled and didn't deserve it in the first place. =P

I just think the Wii could help with some family bonding too dawg. There's a reason The Wii is #1 in the console wars. It's a family oriented system. While Im not happy they chose to go lower graphics then the othr 2 systems, they still make very fun games. I love wailing the hell out of people in Wii Sports Resort.

Why don't you ask your brother what games does he like? Then it will be easier for you to choose the most enjoyable console for him.

If online gaming (of some exclusives such as Tekken) is very important for your brother then the cheapest choice is PS3.
If he likes most arcade games with the ability to use a motion controller then... Wii
For everything else Xbox is the best option. (Xbox still has a wide variety of games and some great exclusives too)


I feel that Xbox has better graphics than PS3 (comparing them in PES and FIFA)...


I voted for Wii because if i was 10 i would like arcade games, and it's controller would amaze me. I believe a 10-yo won't see the deferences in graphics; even Wii's graphics will amaze him in a big HD monitor.

Just ask him what games (genre) he likes, while showing at him some trailers on youtube (that's what i would do)


On the other hand you can buy him a controller and let him play on your pc. The cheapest solution!

Or, "the graphics are not as good as the other 2 consoles, but at least there are some good exclusive from the time my parents were my age!!!"
I don't think so.
If you want to buy the Wii for a kid, for how you enjoyed Mario back then, or because you feel it is going to make your job as a parent easier (choosing appropriate games), then that's fair. Just don't pretend you make the decision on what a 10yo would choose to play

No it's for the kid, but he is also is 10 years old. Game consoles are not babysitters. He's not 13, he's not 14, he's 10. I'm saying that the Wii has more content directly marketed for that setting, hence why it's outsold every other console. 53 million to 32 million, last time I checked. Never underestimate the power of bonding with family over games. It used to be monopoly. Times change. It's easier as a parent to choose, but also easier for a parent to wave 2 sticks at a screen then learn the dual control system of the xbox and PS3, dont be jumping down my throat when I express my opinion... He's buying it for his brother, I was making a helpful opinion other then "blu ray etc" I dont think 10 year old kids generally care about that shennigans. It's a nice extra. I also get tired of hearing how the wii *only* has family games, Zelda, Metroid, are very GOOD series. I lose hours on the Metroid Trilogy. It's also the least expensive. Don't be knocking the staying power of mario, there's also the new mario adventures, etc.

Blue, I understand you dislike the Wii, but you're really just repeating yourself over and over again - we're trying to provide unbiased information here to allow dawgX to make an informed decision - you seem to miss the point that this is for someone a lot younger than yourself, with vastly different expectations of a gaming console

I work in the entertainment section of a department store, we sell all three game consoles and both handhelds - the Wii, by far, outsells the XBox and PS 3 at least 10-1 from my experience, and that's because it's what the kids want - they want to play the more family oriented games that the Wii offers over the generic FPSs on the PS3/Xbox

understandably, people over the age of 21 probably look at the same game on the shelf and think it's crap, but until you put yourself in the mindset of having fun, rather than playing a game, and get a few mates over - then you'll see the genius behind the Wii and it's game lineup

Perhaps I am not making myself clear. The reason I said the system is not the best for a 10yo is not that I now, at almost 33, prefer the other two systems.
I specifically mentioned about me being near that age (only a year older in 1987 that I got my ST).
There are plenty of "kids" games for the other consoles, for all the consoles. The only thing that Wii has that is more than a gimmick is the exclusivity to Mario etc. Something that seems to matter more to people who grew up with them in the 80s-90s...so it is not I who choose a system based on my feelings, it is, probably, the other way around.
I bought a Wii. My purchase counts to the numbers that show Wii outselling the other consoles. I bought a game for the Wii. nothing more. The console bores me to tears. The graphics are miles behind the other consoles. The other consoles can have equally "kids friendly" games, in fact they do. The only difference is that they do it without looking as bad, and without being able to play Mario.
That's it.
