Syberia III due June, 2010
I am just ecstatic about finding this out tonight! I recently went through Syberia again after many years. Then, just early yesterday morning, I completed Syberia II for the second time since it first came out 5 years ago.
Then, tonight, I did a search on Benoit Sokal, the author, and discovered that the third installment is in the works. This series is one of the best [IMHO] Adventure Games ever produced. The story is top-notch and the visuals and animations are just simply gorgeous....even after all this time! I'm sure that, with the newer technology, we'll be in for quite a treat come summer! From the little snippet I read, Kate Walker picks up where the 2nd installment left off. That is, she embarks on the adventure of discovering the Mammoths that came and left with her friend, Hans Voralberg. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1493229/

Awesome. Thanks for reminding me that I need to replay the first Syberia. Good game.

To me, yes, it is.
I'll probably get ragged on for admitting it, but the finale of each of the two games were emotional enough to bring tears to my eyes. [Now, go ahead and rag on me. ]Oh, and, BTW, I played BOTH on Windows 7 x64 recently. |

I loved the Syberia games - my favourite adventure games of all time. Gorgeous artwork and a great story.
I played some of Benoit's other adventures afterwards but they didn't have the same magic. Playing Sinking Island was like pulling teeth. Run all over the map and listen to endless, endless, endless, endless exposition from all characters. Same locations over and over. I'm looking forward to a return to form from Syberia III |

Re: Syberia III due June, 2010
As far as game mechanic goes, it is a very basic point and click adventure; also, technologically, it's 3D characters (and few other objects, notably water) on 2D backgrounds (runs on DX6 hardware) and you exit and enter screens.
But the artistic side is marvelous! Extremely imaginative, beautiful and varied locations (making the game appealing even visually, despite all it's technological crudeness), striking and memorable characters and an emotional story on top of an omnipresent sense of melancholy as everywhere you go you find yourself in some fantastic, yet for various reasons forgotten and decaying place, make playing Syberia a lovely experience. EDIT: This is the beginning, it is a cutscene, so the camera moves, but that's what the game itself looks like: EDIT 2: Some artwork and a screenshot: ![]() ![]()

This came as a bundle of Adventure Games in one box called, The VIVA Adventure Anthology. There are seven games all total: Syberia II Riddle of the Sphinx The Omega Stone AGON Paradise Black Buccaneer Physicus I mainly picked this up because I could no longer locate my Syberia II discs AND it also includes Paradise -- which I've looked for on the shelves for a few years without any luck. However, I ran into a big problem getting Paradise to install on Windows 7 x64. Syberia II was no problem because it comes on 2 separate install discs....like the original. But, Paradise is included on the one disc along with the other game and is using a Universal Installer of some kind. I could get to the install screen, but, clicking on the Install option resulted in the application not responding. So, I booted into Windows XP, successfully installed the game under XP, and, back in Windows 7 am able to point to the XP install and play it that way. So far, no problems at all. As for these other games, anyone have an opinion? The entire set was $20 USD so I'm not hurting if they're no good. |
