APB - GTA Meets WoW
Is anybody as excited for this as I am? I already have a crew together with some of the guys I work with and we are just chomping at the bit to get into this and cause some trouble...or bust it up.

Re: APB - GTA Meets WoW
Sounds good, but I have zero patience for a MMORPG games or any desire to play them, or even time.

Re: APB - GTA Meets WoW
I'm hoping it doesn't take itself too seriously and require you to grind or run raids. It doesn't seem like it from the podcasts I have watched but we'll see as more details are released.

Re: APB - GTA Meets WoW
Yeah, the good thing about EA though is that they are only the publisher. They could still cock up distribution but at least they aren't the development team. EA has been lack luster in any of the games they have developed that fall outside of their precious sports franchises lately.

Never heard of this game until now. The concept seems like something that's long overdue, considering how much the genre is.

Re: APB - GTA Meets WoW
Oh man, this game has me excited! I haven't been this ramped about a game since Lord Of The Rings Online started closed beta! There are two types of servers too. Your typical PvE w/PvP and then a full on PvP server with "chaos rules".
I can see myself spending the better part of a week customizing my character, clothing, tattoos, etc not to mention my car. This is MMO pr0n! Here's hoping it is implemented properly and supported. |

Re: APB - GTA Meets WoW
I have watched the various podcasts from the developer and here is what I was able to take away.
- The level of customization far surpasses anything out there. You also get to customize a car but I do not know if that is an unlockable feature or one that you get right off the hop. - You can assemble a crew of up to 40 players but only 8 players can take part in missions at a time. - There are PvP only servers where anything goes. Blow up what you want, take out who you want, steal when you want. It's one big fire fight. - The game is PvE based but you can take part in PvP if, as a criminal you get caught breaking the law or as an enforcer catch someone breaking the law. - You can also engage in PvP if another enforcer calls for back up. Calling for back up (I believe) only applies to those who are of the same "level". - I put level in quotations because there are no levels exactly. You gain rank although I am not sure how other than completing missions. - Since there are no levels you cannot increase your health but you can apply attributes. More armor, more damage on weapons, etc. - The number of players on the map will be quite small - 100 seems to be what the dev's are saying. Because of this there will be no lobbies. While I do not think anything is confirmed I believe you will have the option to choose a map to play on unless it is full. I may be wrong on a few points and there is much more to the game. I'm so ramped for this. One of the guys I used to play Unreal Tourney with is my wheel man. He always used to like driving the vehicles more than going toe to toe, gun to gun so that will be my job since my trigger finger is itchier than his. |

Re: APB - GTA Meets WoW
First thing that comes to mind is the violence factor (AU Ratings), don't know if it will be available to buy here. Physix looks good. I'm just hankering to buy something in game though, like you would in an online world like SL.
Edit: Not signing for the beta, when I have more productive ideas in mind/. |

![]() Anyway, the new podcast is up. Still no word on a firm release date or pay for play details. A friend of mine went into EB Games here in Canada and asked if they had a release date and the guy behind the counter said February 17th. He almost stroked out and tried to call me to let me know but then he found out that the EB guy thought he said AvP. Damn you! EA has it listed as early 2010 and Amazon.com has it for pre-order but no shipping date. Oh, I just found it on GameStop.com with a release date of March 2nd. Oh baby. I am already planning on taking a week off of work to play! |

Re: APB - GTA Meets WoW
Still no release date but instead of a monthly fee it looks like Real Time Worlds will work in micro-transactions. Hopefully they don't rely on these too heavily and handcuff players into needing them all the time.

Re: APB - GTA Meets WoW
I have yet to receive an email back from any developer who's beta I applied for so that's not really a surprise. The closed beta, from what I hear, is fairly limited. 150 or so people with higher end systems. I'm hoping that an open beta will be announced in order to stress test the servers.

Bah! 1UP.com just posted that EA pushed back three release, one of them being APB until sometime between May and September. Looks like it's time to watch the podcasts again...

Re: APB - GTA Meets WoW
The main APB.com site has been completely revamped with new videos and information including a little blurb that says the game will NOT have a monthly fee or traditional microtransations. I can't image what they have in store to keep the game running but I'm all for a game without a monthly fee.
A friend of mine said that the developer was at PAX East handing out t-shirts and running demos of the game. People went nutty for it. There is a group of about 10 of us just itching to get our hands on the thing when it launches. |

Re: APB - GTA Meets WoW
APB Main Site
APB Pre-Order APB Cost FAQ Looks like the game is ready to launch June 29th in North America and July 2nd in Europe. You can pre-order it from Real Time Worlds and download the client. Pre-ordering will give you the usual extras. Nothing major but it does give you 50 hours of game time to start. The way they are going to set it up is you can get 20 hours of game play time for $6.99. If you do the math, 20 hours spread out of a 30 day month isn't much at all. That isn't nearly enough for me so the other options are 30 days of unlimited game play time for $9.99 with discounts for 90 and 180 day chunks. Say hello to my birthday present! I'm gonna bust me some baddies. |

Re: APB - GTA Meets WoW
Looks like EA din't learn from their faults , many participants in beta said the game has so many bugs and issues that need more time than the current release date. But like they did in C&C4 (beside reinventing the game) they have deadlines and dates they have to stick to no matter the quality. I hope they learn from Blizzard .

Re: APB - GTA Meets WoW
looks good so far. I just wonder why I have never heard of it till now.
Since it is a new series with no base, it makes sense not to charge monthly. They probably won't have content to buy, just new areas of the city that has more challenges and unlocks. I wont pre-order it but if a year down the road it is still going strong I'll buy it. |

Re: APB - GTA Meets WoW
The NDA is EA's thing , I was under NDA too when participating in C&C beta , this sucks but if he posted pics he will be banned from beta . At least that were the rules with C&C4 beta.
Mythical , Does NDA apply to info /your thoughts too ? Last edited by comp_ali; May 6, 2010 at 11:34 PM. |

Pretty much. I can't disclose information about the beta. All I can say is the game isn't terrible.

Re: APB - GTA Meets WoW
It's the italics on the word terrible that has me curious.
I hear there is still some polishing that needs to be done but I have yet to see a game that can launch the same way Lord Of The Rings Online did. That thing was shiny when it launched. This is going to be bitchin'! |
