Hybrid CrossFireX Troubleshooting

As I searched the web and the official site i found that only you again can help me. My internal struggle is that I have M4A785TD-V EVO with the Hybrid CrossfireX support but see know that Radeon HD5870 came out i wanted to buy two and crossfire them but will it work as good as a certified CrossFireX Motherboard? If not is it worth to wait in the shadows and hit "F5" franticly until I can buy the HD5970 card at the estimated delivery times in the online stores? (Otherwise they're always sold too fast before I can bling in NewEgg for example)

Re: Hybrid CrossFireX Troubleshooting

Hybrid Crossfire refers to the ability to crossfire discrete graphics card with the igp.

The cards would run one with 16 data lanes and the other with 4x(this might bottleneck some) on that mobo. On a mobo that can do at 8x/8x or better: the 2x5870 are expected to do better, but it's quite a bit more expensive than buying the single 5970.

2x 5870 at 16x/4x config are probably about even with a single 5970, or slightly better still.

Re: Hybrid CrossFireX Troubleshooting

From what I've read (product description, 785G specs on Wikipedia and this review), that motherboard cannot do CrossFire with two discrete cards, neither 8x + 8x nor 16x + 4x or anything else. This is a big surprise for me as, to my knowledge, until now, any ATI/AMD, or even Intel board with two long PCI-E slots was able to do CrossFire, but apparently the 785G chipset does not support it.
