Hey, Xai, Wow?

I know this might also falls under the Hardware section, but I see mice more like part of games than their own hardware. If you want to move the thread to the Hardware section, I understand.

My trusted Logitech G9 mouse is dying on me. The left mouse button some times it sticks to the click position, not the actually button which goes up, but something else inside it. Anyway, I am going to get a new mouse so I am looking for some input.

The Steelseries Xai mouse has just arrived here (59.99 euros), which is expensive, but still cheaper than most high quality gaming mice. The G9X is at 99 euros...
The Xai seems to have the best reviews (including here). I do not like its looks, but I am willing to not take that into consideration. After all my favourite good looking mouse (MS Sidewinder) is the worst for comfort for me. From the photos, the Xai looks good for lefties but since I am not one, I couldn't care less for when I use it. The mouse doesn't look comfortable to handle for long duration and there are no rests for the fingers not used in games and programs that don't require you to press the side buttons of the mouse.
Other mice I am considering are the Steelseries WoW mouse, for the number of buttons and the rest for the thumb and the pinky finger?. It looks very comfortable and the buttons are a plus. Not sure how it can handle FPS games...The other problem is the price which is 79.99, but don't consider that for now.
Roccat Kone Gaming Mouse. It looks like an older Logitech mouse, which is not bad. Looks comfortable enough, same price as the Xai.
CoolerMaster Advance Sentinel Storm mouse. Same as the above, looks ever more comfortable.
Any other mouse you would suggest to me?

Please no Razer mice.

Re: Hey, Xai, Wow?

Well seeing as I won it in the competition (Tho I gave it to my girl)

I would say it's worth it, It's comfortable durable, the software is EXCELLENT.

and I almost wanted it over my G9x, For the comfort alone, I don't know what material they're using but its like a soft rubber grip to it (But it's plastic) that just feels softer and a lot more comfortable then my plastic g9x, the mouse clicks are great, I'd buy one.

I wish more keyboards/mice were made like this, soft and durable.

Re: Hey, Xai, Wow?

You didn't find it a problem that after hours? it would become uncomfortable due to not really having any ergonomic design, unlike many mice, including the G9X?

Yeah but... Why?
You didn't give a reason, Put aside any prejudices and try one out at least.
I knew a guy that wouldn't use steam because he thought the name was stupid, then he frosted his pants after discovering the community section and is now addicted to it.

Re: Hey, Xai, Wow?

I have mentioned it many times before.
They still owe me money from a pair of headphones I bought from them.

EDIT: what the hell, I will mention it again.
I bought a pair of their 5.1 or 7.1 don't remember any more heaphones. I paid about 100+ euros. After a few days the right side stopped working. I contacted their support, they asked me to send the pair back and receive a new one to replace it. We did that. When the new arrived, about 1second after installation, same problem.
I tried (with both pairs) on different systems, the problem was with the headphones, not the systems.
I contacted them again and again and again, without any reply from them.
Goodbye 100 euros, goodbye thieving Razer crooks.
NO RAZER PRODUCT.

Re: Hey, Xai, Wow?

It sure is hard to choose a mouse.
Part of the problem is I find the mice with designs for the palm grip more relaxing, but I do (at least on FPS) my best game when I use the "claw". One of the good things about the G9 is the size and shape which helps in either of them.

The mouse winning so far is the Cooler Master mouse, even more so due to the 10 euros off its price today. Unless I change my mind, I will order it tomorrow.

When you buy anything direct from the manufacturer you can hardly expect even an RMA Request to go straight to the top of the list. I always buy through a reseller so then they can handle the RMA's and "Thieving".
Never had a problem with Razer Mice.

My advice is start going through resellers and stop with the vendetta lol

Re: Hey, Xai, Wow?

When Hell freezes over, I will. If not, I will wait for an apology, reply to any of my emails, refund and that's about it.
Till then, I will use all the other brands than Razer.
No point in suggesting me any Razer products. Unless they make an orgasmatron, then I will reconsider.

Especially when you can often get it for cheaper through a reseller.

It's not going to stop till I get what I want. I am not going to get another of their products because time has passed, that is stupid.
They screwed me over and now I will give them more money? Get real.

No Razer garbage, end of discussion about them.

Odd all the buttons on my deathadder are programmable (well all but one as one has to be 'click').

Thank you Veridian.

I have at least some of the emails, I think. I deleted most of them among hundrends others last year during "spring cleaning".
I will PM you all the info I can find.

Malware is on a distinguished road

Re: Hey, Xai, Wow?

It comes down to what games you play and your hand size. The two best mice I've had are the IME 3.0 (Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer) and the MX518, both relatively lower priced than those your considering. (FPS gamer here).

The IME is a really big mouse, mostly for palming whist the MX is smaller, more angled and allows both grips. The only real advantage newer mice have over these is the higher polling rate (1000 vs 125) but even this can be over come through over clocking the USB port which is super easy

Re: Hey, Xai, Wow?

The MX518 sure looks a lot like the IME 3, coincidence?
I can't say I have good history with MS mice. They just don't feel right to my hand.
In terms of specs, both of them are far lower than my current G9. I just don't wish to get a mouse with lower specs. DPI count, a lot. As for the USB thingy, I can't say I know what the real world difference is between them. All the modern gaming mice seem to have 1000 with a few at half that.

I play all kind of games. As I mentioned earlier I prefer the comfort of the palm style and I do find myself using that in more relaxing situations, but when playing games that require fast and accurate movement/aiming, I have to use the claw. It helps me to a far more accurate session. (and yes I have been accused almost daily to be cheating lol)

Thank you for your input.

Re: Hey, Xai, Wow?

Hum if you are looking for a top end mouse then I'd probably go for the xai.
Had a chat with a friend who broke it down like this:
+ve's:
The control panel is clean and easy to use ( http://www.mfh.d2prod.co.uk/xai.jpg), all the settings are stored on the mouse so there is no problem when gaming at others houses/LANs and the sensor doesn't seem to skip.

-ve's: Steel series use their own DPI measurement (CPI) so your going to have a bit more trouble finding the right sense at the start. Sensitive to dirt on the sensor.

Re: Hey, Xai, Wow?

Hi BlueMak,

I am sorry you have had such a bad experience with your Razer product and some of the support you received. I certainly can understand your frustration. I checked through our old support files and could not find a record of your email submission, but I only have the information that is public on this site to go by. Send me a PM with any of the previous documentation and information you have and I will see I can do for you. We certainly want to make sure you get the working product you paid for.

Re: Hey, Xai, Wow?

It looks like my issue with Razer has been resolved.

Back to the original topic, I just ordered the Coolermaster Sentinel Advance gaming mouse. It was the one with the fewer bad mouthing about hardware failure (none that I detected), has high DPI (5600), looks comfortable (only one way to know for sure), several buttons (not as many as I would like, but enough), cool design with choice of colours (for the lights, yes I do like some eye candy), and all the reviews were very favourable. It was also cheaper than the alternative good mice.
In the end I was between this one, the Logitech G500 and the Gigabyte GM-M8000.
I decided against the Gigabyte model because of too few customisable buttons, lower DPI and horrible IMO colour scheme. Butt ugly. Also a few reviews said it is very narrow/thin and I don't like the sound of it. Otherwise it has very good reviews and cheaper 10 euros than the CM one (and 20+ from the G500).

I decided against the Logitech because although I like their mice, the thing is I always end up with button problems with them after about a year and a half. Perhaps it is just me.

I will let you know how it is when I receive it some time early next week.

Not just you, but I have had that happen with mice made by other companies, as well.

Think I'll be getting the g500 soon.

I am not sure yet. At first I did not like almost anything about it. Day by day I like it more, but there are still some things I still do not like.

Things I still don't like include the material covering the mouse. It's kinda smooth/soft, but very very slippery.
It feels longer than the G9, I am not a big fan of long mice.
The scroll wheel feels inaccurate? although it isn't.
The top lights of the mouse and the LCD screen are useless since you have to not be using it to see them.
The button that changes profiles is way too forward, combined with the length/shape of the mouse and that the lcd screen and top colours are covered when you use the mouse, you need to move your right hand off the mouse to be able to look at them while you change profile. Problem could be solved if the lcd screen was on the left side, say forward of the thumb buttons.

The software is kinda unintuitive for me. Every review says it is great, I feel it is awful. Also, for some reason when you start it you have to click on one of two boxes since it is going to automatically scan the range between the laser and the surface. But, as soon as the software loads the speed of the arrow is automatically reduced to like 1/5th of what I have it and moves the arrow to the bottom left of the screen. Which means I have to rush to move the arrow to the right box before it goes away like 1.5 sec after it appears with its own decision... FFS!!! The change of mouse speed remains till I manually set it to normal through the software, each time!!!
So, while I am in the software, creating profiles is easy, although confusing at first and annoying in the long term.
At the higher speeds (I use it at 2600, 3200 and 5600) of over 3000 and definitely over 5000 dpi there is something wrong. I can't pinpoint the issue, if it is an issue, it just feels like the mouse has increased speed in software than in actual DPI. It doesn't affect control, but, it feels weird.

One last peculiarity is what it feels like a built in acceleration mode that I can't find a way to disable it.

I can't say yet if I recommend the mouse or if I advice against getting it. Perhaps I will know better in another week of usage.

EDIT: One more thing I don't like I forgot to add. The front thumb button is too far away and I have to make a conscious effort to hit it.

Re: Hey, Xai, Wow?

it may take a while for you to get used to it, especially if you've used your previous mouse for a long time and it' over a different shape. A Slippery material is quite hard to bare, at least for me and it would be hard to get used to.

You sure what you find peculiar with the sentinal isn't related to prediction? If I recall the G9 could have it turned off, so perhaps you've been using no prediction for all this time?

I'm leaning towards getting the xai, but then I'm still quite happy with my old 1800dpi deathadder. Perhaps I could go with the newer deathadder instead...
