Logitech or Xbox Controller ?
I want to buy one of those , the Xbox one is relatively cheaper than Logitech but does it worth . Also I would like to hear from people who tried any of them , the handling ... etc ?
Forgot to say , I mean the wired one . I hate wireless , I had one of them. Even though I bought a rechargeable batteries , I found after many times of use , the battery life decreases dramatically . Anyway , the point is NO wireless. Thanks. |

been using a generic 360 controller, I think by Madcatz, for the last 4-5 years on-off, no issues whatsoever, even got it working in OS X

Re: Logitech or Xbox Controller ?
I'd still recommend the wired 360 pad. More and more games that have gamepad support these days by default have button layouts for the 360 pad in mind. Any other pad, and you'll be reconfiguring the pad to suit the game you are playing... if you can, that is. Mind you, the drawback for the 360 pad (be it wired or wireless) is the center point for the analog sticks. I had one pad where the left analog stick wouldn't always sit at it's center, and I would get drift from it (was a pain in the ass when playing racing games).
As for the Logitech Rumblepad2 or the Dual Action Gaming Pad, both are solid pads that feel like exactly like a PS2 controller. If I had to choose I'd take the Rumbepad2 as the digital control pad is the standard floating design, while the Dual Actions pad, while a little smoother, can be a problem due to the surrounding housing (the housing is indented around the pad, and not a smooth circle). The only other one I can think of that you may want to look at is the upcoming Razer Onza. My friend got a chance to try it at CES, and was really impressed with it. "Best wired 360 pad he's ever used". Comes with a 15 foot cord, adjustable tension for the analog sticks (great for flight sims), and reassignable buttons (done via switches on the back). Only problem: expensive. Estimated price is something like $60. |

Re: Logitech or Xbox Controller ?
Thanks Tipstaff , I really likes the look of the Razer Onza , apart from the price , Razer products don't arrive here in the first place , probably very few people would buy those high end stuff. The Choices between my hands now are either Xbox controller or Logitech (don't remember the model).
About your Xbox pad that has a problem in the left analog stick , did you found it like that after buying or it just went like that after usage. |

Re: Logitech or Xbox Controller ?
I have bought/used 3 Xbox 360 controllers, 2 wireless and 1 wired ones. All of them at some point had the issue with the left stick being slightly off centre, sooner or later in their life. I don't exactly punish my controllers or use them THAT many hours...
They are still very good controllers. For the last couple of months I have been using the PS3 Dualshock 3 controller for my PS3. I don't know if there is a way or version to work under Windows, but if there is, I find it a better controller. The buttons feel much better with their lower profile. The only negative (apart that I don't know if there is a PC version) is that the "trigger" buttons are smaller than the Xbox 360 controller and the L2 and R2 in particular are not shaped as triggers as much as the 360's. I can't speak for durability but so far it still feels like brand new.

>As Blue pointed out, however, 360 controllers eventually have this problem (all my wireless ones do), but (and this is a big but) what is really funny is that this drift thing has never happened on the 360 unit itself for me with the wired controller. It only does this when hooked up to the PC. Even so, I still recommend the 360 controller for all the reasons I mentioned in my earlier post, but also for one other reason: comfort. The PS3 controller, while a great pad, still is not as comfortable to hold as the 360 controller when using the analog sticks. I play with the balls of my thumbs on the pads, not the tips. When using the 360 controller, if I have to push the sticks into each other (so -> and <-) my thumbs don't bang up against each other thanks to their spacing, and the fact that the left stick is higher than the right one. On the PS3 controller (and every PS controller before that) I'm always hitting my thumbs against each other when I do a move like that, and I'm sure the same thing would happen with the Logitech ones too. If that's not a problem for you, then.. err.. um... it's not going to be a problem then.

Re: Logitech or Xbox Controller ?
The only Football game I have is Madden 2004 and I don't even recall having ever installed it. :/ I believe the ONLY reason I bought it was because it had Michael Vick's pic on the cover and now....after his arrest, conviction and jail time...I don't think I ever will.

Re: Logitech or Xbox Controller ?
There is no confusion. As much as I love the USA, they are just plain wrong on this one.
Ali, I have played only sensible soccer on the Xbox controller and some PE on the PS3 (2 years ago, not on my system). So....I can't help since they are nothing alike lol. However, the (I think) smaller distances in the PS3 Dualshock 3 controller should make it better at football. Playing Sensible Soccer with the 360 controller is just not good enough. The D-pad is worthless for diagonal movement and the sticks have way too much distance to react fast enough.

Re: Logitech or Xbox Controller ?
i use a playstation type controller for FIFA, and like it very much.
never liked the feel of the xbox controller one little bit, hate it in fact. so for me personally i'd be getting something like a logitech dual thingy ![]() edit: just having a little play there after reading tips post. i play with the tops of my thumbs level with the edge of the sticks, and never have a problem with thumbs clashing. but i can see how if you played with the stick further down your thumb how you're gonna have problems. guess it depends on how you hold your gamepad. (and yeah, you lot are completely wrong with the football / 'soccer' thing )

Re: Logitech or Xbox Controller ?
I'd never buy a gamepad other than the PC 360 gamepad because so many good PC games have built in support specifically for this device. It's not worth the trouble using programs to trick games into thinking some other pad is a 360 gamepad (which is what I did with my PS3 gamepad).

Re: Logitech or Xbox Controller ?
I'm in the market for a good gamepad and searched through the past threads. I was leaning towards a Logitech Rumblepad 2 until I read this thread. Now I'm going for a wired Xbox controller as my son and I really love Batman AA!
Is the MS Xbox controller all the same? Is there a newer version than this one?

Pretty much all the same. They sell a PC wired version for more money, but it's just a wired 360 controller anyways. MS also sells a wireless controller for the PC that comes with the wireless receiver, or you can buy the receiver separately if you already have a wireless 360 controller. Of note, if you are using XP be sure to go to the Windows Update site. There will be updated drivers for the controller there. If using Vista/Windows 7, be sure that you have Windows Update setup to receive updates for other things, and again, an updated driver will show up for the controller. |

Re: Logitech or Xbox Controller ?
I don't know what I did wrong some months ago, but I bought a wireless 360 controller for our Vista machine and I could never get it to be recognized by any games (ones that REQUIRED an X-Box controller) even after installing drivers for it. Seems I rem people telling me (after the fact, of course) that the wireless X-Box controller didn't work on PC's at that time. I guess that has since changed? I would have used a wired one, but it was our HTPC and a wired one would not have worked out, so I tried to use a wireless one and failed miserably. I said screw it and forced my Logitech to work.
I now just use a Logitech Wingman Rumblepad II and those homebrew drivers that will make the system think you're using an X-Box controller that you just drop into a game's install path and it works fine for me. The Wingman controllers have all the same buttons as an X-Box controller anyway. I really don't like that game companies are dropping support for PC controllers we've been using for years and are trying to force you into an overpriced X-Box controller. My PC is NOT an X-Box. |
