Dirt 2 Fullscreen

How the h**l do I get fullscreen mode in Dirt 2?

If I select my monitor resolution I end up with the game showing on desktop with only the top left corner visible...

Got it through Steam.

Have you tried Alt+Enter?

Re: Dirt 2 Fullscreen

No, I haven't. I haven't found anywhere it says that that's the combination.

There is no option in the ingame settings for windowed or fullscreen mode and since the game is from steam there's not much documentation.

Re: Dirt 2 Fullscreen

I just checked, ALT+Enter switches from full screen to windowed on my copy (DiRT2 from steam....) Yeah! No docs.....

Does it show full screen while loading and then switch? or it starts and stays in that corner. Are you running the 10.3 driver set?

Re: Dirt 2 Fullscreen

It started loading as a 1024x768 splash on the middle of my desktop, no window borders, and when I changed to a higher resolution it just extended it towards the bottom right, ending with about only half the game visible.

Starting the game from the windows start menu I get a window with border and resize icons but I only get a fullscreen window, not fullscreen mode.

But I'm gonna try alt+enter to see.

And yes, running 10.3 drivers

Re: Dirt 2 Fullscreen

Once in a while I've had Dirt 2 launch in a smallish window, possibly because some other application took focus while it was starting up. I don't have the Steam version though. But Alt+Enter should work, yes. Alt+Enter is a good old universal command for changing full screen applications into Window mode and back, though not all games support switching mode during play.

Mr Liqourice, you need to start thinking OUTSIDE the window box. Forget the rules, forget the instructions, listen to the force! (me)

LOL

Alt+Enter works just fine.

Now I'm just battling to get my X52 to work well with the game. It's just to sensitive, I just move the stick a tiny bit and the car spins around... Gonna see if I can get my old Thrustmaster wheel to work.

Haven't used my Thrustmaster 360 Modena for like 3 years so I didn't know if it worked or not, had problems with it on the rig I had then. Tested it now and it worked just fine from the very beginning!

And this is how Dirt 2 is to be played. No keyboard, no joystick.. WHEEL! With the X52 I could hardly drive at all, with the wheel I got excellent precision. I'm winning every darn race using it!

I do well enough with a joystick..... Wish I had a wheel, but........

Glad you got the full screen sorted out.

Re: Dirt 2 Fullscreen

Racing games on a keyboard are a waste of time imo lol... i've got an old logitech steering wheel and accelerate/brake pads and that makes games like DIRT2 amazingly fun

Yes, the difference between using a joystick and a wheel is just amazing. Of course it differs between sticks, the X52 is a very sensitive one so small movements can ruin a good run but this old wheel is perfect, haven't spun around once with it.

Re: Dirt 2 Fullscreen

Race Driver 3 was excellent even with the keyboard. It all depends on the game. Don't forget that for all the Home Computers for over a decade racing games were only playable with a keyboard or digital joysticks and the games were still great.

Re: Dirt 2 Fullscreen

I got the Dirt2 Demo from Steam and have gone through it a few times using my 360 Controller. I also had no problem getting the game to play in Full Screen.

The only racing games I ever really got into were FlatOut and FlatOut 2. I had a blast with those.

Re: Dirt 2 Fullscreen

Don't know anything about those really. I don't like all kinds of racing games, the arcade ones especially since I'm a definite simulator gamer. I want it to feel as real as possible. Now, Dirt 2 isn't quite what I prefer but it's a nice distraction when I want a change from STO.

Re: Dirt 2 Fullscreen

i keep meaning to get a new wheel, i just use a PS3 style controller atm, but up to recently i never played many racing games on PC.
these days i play Dirt2, GRID, Burnout Paradise and TOCA3 , so probably should invest in one
