Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
Some people seems to think it's childish to play games and I guess in some ways they're right, but to me it's more of keeping the child inside alive and not forget about how to have fun in a simple way. Don't want to become and old grumpy man because I felt I had to conform to social standards.
And I have to say that it's at least as childish to watch those gossip shows on TV. ![]() And, I spend less money each year on computers and games than most people spend in bars and pubs during the same time! Lets keep gaming because it's fun! |

Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
I wonder what years of gaming will show in the future about any positive effect of long time gaming and Alzheimer condition. For me the worst thing it can happen to one at old age.

For example: Charlton Heston, Peter Falk, Estelle Getty, and many other actors, have suffered from Alzheimers. That includes Ronald Reagan, former actor and former President of the USA. Also, the woman who created "Dear Abby" is now suffering from it. Her daughter has taken over in the past 2 or 3 years due to this. So, only from my own observation, it seems it doesn't matter just how active a person is or has been. Consider all the memorization those actors and actresses had to do in order to be successful. It WOULD, however, be interesting if research shows that gaming has a deterrent affect upon Alzheimers, as well as any other mental illness or mental state. |

Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
of course memorization or studying activates a different part of the brain than playing 'active' games. it stimulates a whole different region.. it would be interesting to see which part(s) are affected by alzheimer and like you said, maybe gaming deters it.. or whatever else might be a deterrent

Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
Still playing, like many others seem to have too many on the go.
CoDMW2 - Playing through again and the odd online game Dirt 2 - Good for a blast now and then Assassins Creed 2 - about 3/4 through I guess Dragon Age Awakenings - This stopped me finishing AC2 Batman - It was on offer on steam so got that not started yet Got Splinter Cell on pre order, then Mafia 2 will be out, Alan Wake... I need a 2 week gaming holiday, not sure the better half would like that though.

Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
My wife and I had a son who is now five months old. That definitely slowed down my gaming a bit. Here is my current list:
Left 4 Dead 2 - only played through the first campaign. Waiting on scheduling conflicts with friends resolve to try the others. Dragon Age: Origins - about 3/4 through and 45-50 hours of game time. Burned out on it and haven't played it in probably two months Mass Effect 2 - loved the first game, but haven't gotten around to playing this one yet. It's installed and my ME character imported. I really want to be able to commit time to this one so I'm just waiting. Ghostbusters - got it on sale around New Years. Haven't touched it yet. The Longest Journey 1 & 2 - never finished them when the were originally released. Re-purchased them when they were on sale around New Years. Haven't touched them. Mirror's Edge - another New Years sale. Finally finished this about two weeks ago.
